Does anyone know if there are any companies about at the minute offering the free insurance (or cheap one day insurance) to enable people to collect new bikes?

Thanks

They do on cars.

Never heard on bikes.

Normally if its a new bike, they'll deliver if local.

Otherwise higher a van. I managed a half day for £22 for a sprinter.

Get insurance, ride your bike back and then cancel the policy within 14 days. As long as you don't claim, then they are required to refund you what you paid under the 'return of goods act' or something.

- a £25 admin fee which is about the same price as a 1 day policy anyway. So you'd have to go 13 days anyway.

Just because you're too young and inexperienced to know doesn't mean it doesn't exist, twat.

The bike insurer used to do a free one week policy if you got a quote through them, I used it twice but they don't do it any more.

So, where offers one day insurance?
Any suggestions on who to call? Smile

I'm not aware that anywhere does, without the above blags.

The joys of being TPO on all bikes not in your name.

I always date it for the next day so its in someone elses name, also insurers still pay out if you crash, i wrote of an RXS100 and got paid out in full inc injurys sustained.

Only applicable if the vehicle is fully insured in the name of the person that owns the vehicle.

Nope, not when i wrote of the RXS100, the guy who owned it (cliff of here) hasnt been insured on it for some months, although that does apply to some insurance companies.

Like i said before Full payout with injurys, but do check it applies.

You arent covered to ride a bike if your policy says you are covered to ride other bikes unless the bike is fully insured in the name of the legal owner of the vehicle.

You've been lucky there then mate Thumbs Up

Driving of other vehicles extensions only applies to vehilces that are already insured elsewhere although when it goes to court the insurance companies tend to pay out.

Wasnt lucky it just wasnt in my insurance, the police got involved because they though i was riding without insurance.
Some companies may not require the owner to be fully insured, as mine obviously were. quite a few people checked the documents and spoke to the insuarance people on my behalf, and nothing of what you are saying was said.
I even have to post somewhere, it was about 2 years ago.

It's in the RTA somewhere so it doesn't differ from company to company.

It basically lets you driver other cars on a third party only basis, providing the car is insured by another party, and you have the owners permission to drive.

Even when the extension is applicable the cover is only sufficient to meet the requirements of the Road Traffic Acts. Effectively that means that there is no cover at all for any sort of damage to, or theft of the vehicle being driven.

That means that you are only covered for third party damage so if you recouped damages to the bike and injury it was either an oversight on the part of the insurance comapny or that the losses have been recouped from the owner of the vehicles old insurance comapny who, as his last insurer, could have been held liable.

Well if you find it somewhere in the so called RTA then ill believe you, either way, i didnt get prosecuted for no insurance and got a full payout, for being knocked off on a bike that was insured in no ones name, i had tpo on bikes on my GSXR750 at the time.

If what you are saying is true, then this was missed by the traffic police, the station police when i produced and the insurance company themselves.
I also had to get a permission letter from the owner of it, my friend cliff (on here) who did so.

It's not to do with the Road Traffic Act, it's to do with the wording of your insurance policy. Some state how other bikes have to be insurance by their owner, others don't have that clause.

It's entirely down to what your insurance policy says. Thumbs Up
