Hi, my rear tyre is in need of replacing now. well, a short while ago probably, but im gunna do it soon. i currently have a bridgestone BT010R on the back, which they no longer manufacture so i cant get a direct replacement but the garage i spoke to said a BT014 would be ok with the front i should already have.
but, i am wondering if these are long lasting tyres as i bought the bike with the rear on it and have not had to change it till now, so should i get the bT014 (£115 fitted) or are there any better all round tyres, for sporty riding but also long rides and offering all weather grip.
any advice on good tyres for the ZZr would be great, i do understand if i change the rear for a different tyre (not the 014) then i'll need to change my front aswell which will cost more, but if other tyres are better then that's just what it costs.

thanks
calum.

FWR gave me BT020 rear and BT014 front for compromise on grip with longevity - the front will wear at the same rate as the rear on my ZX6R so that's roughly 5000-6000 miles of commutes and spirited weekend riding. It feels a tad weird, but maybe that's the 014 front dropping in quickly. Still a good combination and well worth it - back in the day, people used to run 010 fronts and 020 rears. I aint tried an 021 rear, but some people say that the 020 lasts longer. Bike's a ZX6R F (96) so it's putting the same amount of power on the road. I'd class myself as a mid paced rider.

thanks for that reply. so the 014 is a long-ish lasting tyre anyway? if so then i dont mind only replacing the rear and sticking with the tyres i have and no work well, i just wanted advice before i go putting new tyres on which are crap and end up binning the bike or replacing them again shortly.

The 014 is a soft sticky sports tyre... I've just replaced the rear one on my bike at 4300 miles and it was well into the depth indicators in the middle. I don't think I'd personally class it as a sports tourer...

I went for Michelin pilot road 2's for mine and I've been incredibly impressed. They been more confidence inspiring in the real world than the 014's ever were when the sun went in or it got a little damp. Not tracked them yet (the 014's were fantastic on the track) so can't comment on that...

thanks stiffler. i dont plan on tracking my bike anytime soon so that isnt a worry. i just want a long lasting good tyre for good all year riding which is gunna be quite grippy so i dont need to worry so much about the tyres letting go.

that's 2 votes for the pilot road 2's. might have to price up a set of those for front and rear then.
thanks.

I can vouch for Dunlop qualifiers since they lasted me about 5000 miles before i made the switch to bridgestone - ebay a pair from round and black for 141 quid and they're worth it!

I may try michelin pilot road 2 but they're pretty expensive. Being happy with the performance of my dunlops, i could try the dunlop triple compound equivalent - the ROADSMART?

What size is the ZZR?

Same as a thundercat I guess, 120/60 & 160/60?

Pilot Road 2's are quite pricey. If your not riding like a tw@t you could probably make do with a lesser tyre (read that as a tyre not directed at power rangers)

not checked the front, but yes the rear is 160/60.
if they are expensive then i wont be able to afford a pair anyway.
think i might just pop into Thunder Road and mentioned to them about it, and if nothign is better then i'll just take the BT014 for £115 fitted and be done with it. if it comes to being shit then i'll jsut go for something better next time when my front needs changing aswell - save the money this time round i spose cos my front is fine.
too may straight roads from south wales to portmsouth (via gloucster) has caused the middle of the rear to wear down but my front seems ok. should try and find a less straight way of getting there, but the sat nav doesnt do that Sad

thanks for the advice guys.

Got a pair of Dunlop D208's fitted to mine. £130 fitted. Good all round tyres especially if you use the bike all year round.

014's are utter tripe. 010's were much MUCH better, IMO.

I found Bridgestone BT-021s were really good tyres on my Bandit 600.

Thumbs Up

The tyres on my Cat are getting close to legal limits now (BT020s) so I priced up a new set at the weekend. £180 fitted for BT021s and £205 for Pilot Road 2s. I heard lots of good things about grip and longevity of the BT021s when they came out, but I think the Mich's have moved the goalposts on again.

I've had Pirelli Diablo Stradas on my ZX6 for the last few years. Can't fault them one bit.

On my ZZR-600 (languising in a garage before I can stick her back together) I found Dunlop SportMax Qualifiers were a great choice compared to the BT-020's that were on there before. Much more grip and very confidence inducing.. Smile

They were great on the track as well when I did Silverstone last year. Smile Thumbs Up
