I've only been riding on the road since Friday afternoon (passed the CBT + got a DT125R)

I've noticed that every biker you pass gives you a little nod or a wave.

Seems like some sort of bikers code of practise, which is great I think.

Is this something that everyone else witnesses or does ?

No mate, never happened to me, never heard of it either. It must just be you.

Anything unusual about you/your bike?

Wouldn't it look silly if cagers did the same thing to each other?
Little wave out the window... A wave out the sunroof. Arms flapping inside the car in the windscreen to all the other cars passing by.

The only bikers not nodding or waving at me when i'm out are Harley dudes and ped boi's. Though harley guys should be the ones doing it most seeing as we carry tools and they know we do.

It depends where you are. In London, if you waved / nodded to every passing bike you'd be always doing it - although I once rode in to London in the winter and got nods from couriers... Not sure if they thought I was one of them or not Smile

Outside of cities, most people will nod or wave - except Harley riders...

For the full Michael Jackson effect, jerk your shoulder upwards as you nod to the side Very Happy

They are gay bikers, if they wave or nod it is them asking if bum fun is an option, reciprocation is a reply in the affirmative.

Explains the nodding dog in the back of some cars. Obviously not fussy!

i nod to just about every biker. like when i drove a classic mini it was a wave beep, and flash of the lights as i just got overexcited.
i dont nod to scooters though... or if i am going to fast to take my eyes off the road ahead...

Ive only been riding 2 months now an when I first started out noticed it an thought it a bit strange. Then I read up on BCF (yeah I searched!!) and foudn plenty of threads about who nods, who doesnt, if you dont your a C**T, if you do your a C**T yada yada.

It appears its down to choice really, I find it a nice gesture really. I'll always reciprocate a nod if I can (if im not too busy concentrating on filtering etc), but dont really initiate them that much since when they dont nod back I feel a bit of a twat for some reason..... like when you go to shake someones hand an they leave you hangin an you might try an style it out by running your hand through your hair or something....that kind of feeling.

Anyhoo, why not try an work some of your own style into your nod/wave, perhaps a bit of body popping with the one arm or something, gives the other guy momentart entertainment I suppose.....

Aircooled VW owners [Beetles, Type 2's etc] have been doing it for decades

AA patrolmen used to do it to to AA club members who were displaying a badge
