If you are certain that it was a GATSO (flashes TWICE after you have passed it and takes picture of rear of your vehicle) then yes, it does need road graduations to verify your speed and prosecute. Sometimes, as has happened near me, camera can be up and "flashing" before the graduations have been applied !

If the Gatso was facing towards you then I doubt you'll of been done. I've made them flash loads of times and never been done. Someone told me a few years ago that Gatsos can only "do you from behind", (Excuse the expression!). I didn't believe him till he saw one coming and deliberatly set it off. Since seeing that I never took any notice of Gatso's on the other side of the road.

I don't know whether this is the case with all Gatso's so don't go trying it and blaming me if ya get done kids!! Of course, Truvelo's will do you facing forwards!

As for the road markings, I don't think they need to have them as I've seen quite a few with no road markings

I know of one in wellingoon, shropshire, near TCAT (or whylie and holland if you know that better) that is a serco one instead of gatso, still on a pole and everything, but no road markings, because the lines are pre-placed on the film, and then when the picture is taken, it puts the cars image onto the film with lines. These have 2 visible 'eyes' though, one is red (normally on the right as you look at it head-on.

Thats what my uncle told me when he was a local traffic cop anyway. When people are looking for cameras, they tend to look for the markings, not the camera, so it catches more people

https://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso6.htm

We have SPECS in Havant here -I spoke to someone couple of months ago with me saying 'bet they are the new cams to dectect how long it takes to from Cam A to cam B + Ticket if you makei t befor a certain time.
I was told no! But lucky it dont affect bikes -

Here might be your answer on this site

https://www.stvincent.ac.uk/Resources/Physics/Speed/road/speedcam2.html

Quote:
A series of white line markers are painted on the road in the image frame area. These are used to provide a check on the vehicle speed - for speed prosecutions the camera must take two images half a second apart. Comparing the two images gives a means of checking the speed detection equipment - and an answer to the motorist who swears that he was really only driving at 25 mph and the camera must be faulty!

But, there is one that dose get set off around here with no lines.

This happens quite a lot, we set them off at work on the other side of the road, many do it and is annoyingly bright.

You wont get done.

It could also be faulty and randomly flashing. The camera near where i work is always going on the blink.

i know that cameras have to be recalibrated every once in a while and it has be known for cameras to flash people well within the limits and they still get prosecuted unless you ask for the date the camera was recallibrated!!

always contest speed cameras even if you think you were speeding Thumbs Up

P.s bikes dont need worry about cameras unless it gets you up the arse your F*** even those hidden vans cant touch us cos the technollogy cant lock on to bikes sometimes it does tho if you get pulled by them just stick to your guns saying you were in the limit and see what he says chances are he let you go'coppers being chancy thats all!
