Well i sold my bike for no loss and now have £5000 to spend on a car...... After looking around for a car and with summer coming up i am beginning to regret my decision! Even my girlfriend thinks i should get a bike!

So i am not 100% what i want to do.... But if i decide to do a U turn i will be looking at a ZX10R or an 04 Blade.

Now i have had an 05 636 and the build quality was great, having never owned a modern Honda i am not sure what the build quality is like. My Suzuki K3 was pretty poor to be honest and as i will be riding everyday i am looking for build quality rather then BHP even though they are all very even in that department.

So any comments to sway me ether way would be good!

i've got a 02blade and the build quality is great, only found 1 corroded nut (the bikes done 22k in all weathers), but if i was buying i'd probably give the 10r a go!

my mate has an 04 10R. the platic is thin and looks cheaply finished, the fork stanchons are corroding after just 3500 miles. I thought the K4 was hard to keep mint until i saw his 10r. Its fast though Confused

IMO the 02 and 03 954 Blades are better built than the 04/05 1000RR's. As Ant says you won't go wrong with the 954.

The build is better again from 06, back to a similar standard to the 954 and it's a better bike. The steering is improved as is the power delivery and the engine is stronger.

I can't really comment on the ZX10R as I've never owned one, other than to say I've had a choice of owning all of the 1000cc race reps for the last 6 years and I'm now on my fourth Blade. Possibly considering a fifth. Thumbs Up

Do what I just did - I had a £5k budget from selling the Blackbird and split it - £1k for a cheap runabout car and £4k on a bike. Means you get the best of both worlds and if you get a low powered car it wont cost much to insure or tax. I got a little X reg 1.1 Saxo for £700, cost me £125 to insure and £66 for 6 months road tax, then a GSXR750 K5.

As for the bikes - they are so different you really need to take them both for a testride. I'd probably go for the Kwak just because both Hondas I've owned have been good but a bit soulless

What a contrast you have there Shocked

They say the 04 ZX10R is the ultimate monster on two wheels with it nodding its head over the slightest of crests whereas the Fireblade is so easy to get on, go the distance and ride fast easily.

Well this is my opinion, I have recently ridden both of these bikes on a ride safe program with the coppers, manufactures were there so I tried these two bikes.

So went out on the fireblade first, very very nice riding position, got tonnes of power good around corners etc and is sexy as fook. Can not find a single thing I disliked about the bike.

ZX10R, well the riding position was to be questioned. Pegs were higher, which annoyed me and also your hands will touch the tank when your menuvering the bike. grrr. But its quick and awesome around the bends and I mean awesome.

So out of the two I would definately pick the CBR. Its just got that all round goodness to it! Thumbs up Honda.

Hope this helps!

My CBR600RR was the worst build quality ive ever seen, after touring on it, upon taking off the fairings which are fixed by crapped rubber things, they all fell apart in my hands.

The only thing good on a honda now days is the engine, they are so built to cost its unreal.

If you are looking for real build quality get a Ducati, Paint jobs are good, individual parts are good welding is tidy, ignore people who have never owned one who say they are crap.

Ive owned CBR400, GSXR750 k2, Ducati 749S, CBR600RR, TL1000R and a Aprilia RSVR1000 now, and Ducati is the best quality by far.

Honda screws are like cheese.

When I went to a Ducati dealership to fit my pipe, they replaced all the screws with metal fixings without me asking and at no extra cost.

Wave....hitting nail on the head, son.

Ignore those that owned them and claim are amazing too - they just have to justify all that money they wasted on a slow bike Wink.

Well i dont know what you would be comparing the quality too, but its no bike ive ever seen.
The Ducati is in a different league to my new Aprilia, the extra time taken on everything really does make the difference in years to come.

the 2005 CBR600RR i had was in such a shocking state after 10,000 miles, i was absolutly gob smacked, i bought the bike because i assumed *Honda* and thought good build quality and reliability.

It put me off so much, i will probably never own another Honda again.

My CBR400RR was built like a Honda should, 1988 and solid as a rock.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Too slow? Are we talking about the company that are MotoGP and multiple WSB champions. I.e. the co. that bought out the 1098R and the Desmosedici?

Based on that logic, one of these would be much better choice for speed after all the company built F1 cars which are even faster than moto-gp bikes 9 times out of 10!

1098R isn't that fast for it's price, if I remember. Same for their ultra-fancy one.

It's all about being at the peak of performance within your chosen field. I.e. they make F1 cars but they are slower that the others!

Your logic does, however, stand up if their lawnmowers are faster than the other manufacturers.

And if they are, be my guest and turn up on one at ace cafe!

Dance!

hes not gonna be buyin a 1098r or desmo so the argument stands perfectly, the equaivalent ducati(999) will be slower and more expensive Razz
Yamaha have fairly solid build quality and kawa arent all bad
the paint on the 848/1098 looks bad i must say, lots worse than the 999/998 etc
ive seen a few demo ones with lumps missing out of it

And we're talking good value-for-money fast road bikes, which ducati aren't so good for. Smile

Great if you want to buy a high maintenance WSB bike, though Smile.

the 04/05 model zx10r is fantastic fun. Just make sure it has a steering damper and best to do something with the shock. Its the kind of thing you wont get bored of, not sanitised at all like some of the newer bikes, its very aggressive and twitchy
i'd try go for the 06 blade if possible over the 04/05

And don't buy a black one. The 06 is definitely a better bike but I don't think you'll find one for £5k unfortunately.
