Well it seems one of my fork seals has gone on the Hornet. Left one (when on the bike) to be precise.

Now I doubt I can do this myself so I'm wondering how much it would cost to get it fixed? As a rough estimate as I know the local bike shop are bit stingy and if the price differs a lot then I might go somewhere else.

Think my front wheel bearings might be gone too as I could hear something odd when I rolled to a stop. Meh.

Will hopefully have paddock stands tomorrow so I can inspect them.

Many thanks. Thumbs Up

Neither should be that hard to do on the Hornet.

Front paddock stand needs to be the yoke type to take the forks off.

If you can, I'd take the fork(s) off and give that to them - should be well under an hour's work, I'd have thought.

Somewhere I've got details of a suspension expert style racer person that will probably do work on other people's bikes - not too far from you, I don't think.

Since you are changing them change them both:

£5 for bushes top and bottom = £20
then fork seals £10
Oil = £7

Pete a local mechanic will do fork seals ride in ride out for £95 , take the forks off yourself and bring them to him and he'll do them for £60.

Considering I nearly impaled myself last time I'm going to get him to do it for me.

ESB attempted the job forgot about bushes even though I asked specifically attempted to charge me over £100 for messing it up , and I left angry but didn't drop any money and did it myself.

I realised one of mine was fucked on the DRZ as a buyer was coming to look at it. Not ideal. As I was in a hurry to sell I took it to a local mechanic who did the job for 70 quid.

If you aren't in a big hurry then it's probably worth doing yourself. Like anything else once you've done it once it'll be an easy job that you don't think twice about.

Yoke type? I've just ordered front and rear universal paddock stands, they're the peg type so I doubt I can do it myself...

And it'd be great if you can find the details. Thanks G... again Laughing

I was going to anyways and I remembered about bushings when sickpup mentioned them ages ago (never forgotten).

I'll see what I can do about taking them off myself but if not I'll see how much they will charge.

Since I have been thinking about it quite awhile, the suspension on the front is too soft and I've heard that adding thicker oil would make the suspension stronger. Should I do it now or do it later? I know changing the springs will make mroe of a difference but oil is quite a bit cheaper. Wink

I see you're point and I'm not in a hgue hurry, as I can get to work by bus and I get free taxi home... Thinking

Need a different paddock stand to take the forks off though...

I doubt the milk crate will stand up to the job but I might try some bricks... Thinking

Just pad it out with some towels / rags and make sure the bricks are stable! Maybe put them in a box that fits round well so they can't topple or something.

But that's a worst case scenario. Unless you are really clumsy, it should be fine.
