Hey folks, seen a bike on Ebay that I like the look of but I feel like the guy is being a bit optimistic with the £1800 even though he says its immaculate on the phone.

Also slightly concerned about MOT and TAX both running out this month.

He did say if you buy it now he will put 12 months MOT on it. And the tax would be up to you.

As for anything else it looks fine. Mileage is ok as well. When I bought my Hornet for around 1800 it had 21k miles. Haven't had any problems apart from a tarnished pipe that I had to cut and that was it.

These bikes are so popular in London, would say atleast 40/50% of bikes I see are Fazers.

I've never ridden one, but can see why it is popular -

Bikini Fairing - keeps worst of the wind off you on the motorway.

Upright seating with wider bars - can sit on it for an age, and balance nicely - good for filtering

Inline4 - Good for weekend rides for fun - not something you could do on a CB500 say)

Too expensive. You should be able to get an '02/'03 Foxeye model for that money, which I would recommend.
I've owned a gold '99 just like that one and I currently own an '02 FZS600.

Reasons to go for a Foxeye:

1. the front fairing is much more attractive.
2. 200 mile tank range, that model only has maybe a 140 mile range.
3. the headlights on the '99 Fazer are complete wank, the '02/'03 ones rectify this problem.
4. the '99 model doesn't have a clock. Which I found extremely annoying.

I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. The one thing the older model does have going for it is it's slightly more powerful. Officially, the engine is identical, but I found the '99 model to have a bit more oomph in it, and I'm not the only one to have found this.

Also, make sure you check out the condition of the downpipes. Fazer downpipes have a serious corrosion problem. Will cost you a fair load to replace them if they're shot.

They're bloody brilliant. Sportsbike performance (almost), with none of the many disadvantages. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the responses guys.

I've been round to see it and it looks like it just rolled out the factory its that clean.

The guy is the only owner and he says he has done all the servicing himself because he doesn't trust garages and I can beleive him since he restores bikes.

I think this is as certain as someone could be buying a second hand bike that it isn't a lemon. Yet the owner knows this and thus I don't think I could make him go below £1700.

Do you think this would be a bad purchase for me? I am currently worried about the following issues.

If I suddenly needed to sell it I wouldn't get that much back

I might occasionally use it for work rather then the car on nice days (80 mile round trip) which will kill the resale value

Another of my friends says he doesn't care how good condition it is, a 9 year old fazer is worth no more then 1400

£1300 tops , as there has been one in Bolton for sale for ages <10K miles wavy discs blah blah.

£1700 buys a Ally CBR600 these days, or a J2 ZX6R.

it depends where in the country you are. If your in/near london the couriers will snap all the cheap fazers up in no time makeing the good examples like this hold their value. Id say £1700 is a fair price as you said its mint. good bikes they are.

I must have been real lucky then. I got my '02 Fazer in East London, 13k miles, mint condition except for a scuffed front fairing for £1250. Very Happy

Indeed you was.

I sold my 2000 half faired bandit on 12k for 1850 and the fazer is an infinately better bike all round. The only things that would put me off that bike is the colour and if the valve clearances have been checked - certainly not the price.
