Ich, turning left at a roundabout with a pillion, next thing we know we're sliding down the road. Looked back to find the road was covered in gravel Rolling Eyes I'm an idiot for not noticing it, especially since I knew the road had recently been worked on.

I got away with a grazed knee (I've hurt myself more tripping over), passenger got a bit more severe grazing but was ok. Just glad it wasn't the girlfriend on the back Razz

Bike got away fairly lightly with scratched but not cracked fairings, snapped clutch lever, and its leaking oil Sad

Now I've got two weeks off, with the weather getting nice finally, and no bloody bike! Evil or Very Mad

Will whack some pics up when I can get to my mates house to pick up the bike.

Oh and cheers to the guys on the R1 and CBR that stopped to see if we were ok, and to the guy on the Guzzi Thumbs Up

Oh and thanks to the 10+ cars who watched me sliding down the road and didn't even think to stop to see if we were ok Evil or Very Mad Middle Finger

Unlucky.

There seems to be a lot of accidents on roundabouts. My only accident was on a roundabout.

Unlucky mate, I've got a ZXR 400 too, and if the gravel is the same colour as the road like loose surface chippings it can be hard to spot.

And mine, on a cg125. Back tyre slid out whilst I was going round, gave it more revs to get it to grip again, it gripped and threw me over the handlebars. Pretty much textbook highside on a cg125!

Are you sure it was gravel? and not just your error? Although its more beleivable with it being gravel and not a oil based substance such as diesel.

Unlucky mate, i hope your both of and this doesnt knock your confidence at all, pics of the bike? was there any warning signs of work in progress? if not theres blame theres a claim. Thumbs Up

Definatly gravel, could see a nice groove in it where my tyre had slid. My error was not spotting it Rolling Eyes Cones everywhere, pretty obvious that people *had* been working there.

Titz: I'm guessing thats the case, its leaking from the er, lumpy black bit that sticks out the left hand side fairing Razz

Clutch cover? I'd say drain oil off, take off sump. Have a little looky for shards of metal.

Left hand side i think is the generator cover. Please don't say that you RODE your bike after that! Or even attempted to start it up? Shocked . There's plenty of ZXR400 engines being sold for spares so a cover should be about 20-40 quid for second hand one.

You'd need a gasket as well. That's what ended up going on mine - they're as thin as crackers! Vee also cracked his cover when he had a 10mph spill.

Either way, get a set and do a binge and spray them. If at all possible, find some carbon covers for the engine covers because it'll abrade THAT instead of the metal.

Cheers Titz Thumbs Up Gives me an idea on what to look for Smile Ich looks like its spares hunting time!

Nah didnt try and ride it or start it, primarily because I didnt have a clutch lever and because I knew it wouldn't start anyway once it's been on its side.

Sounds like you have the similar sort of damage like on mine. Gasket - buy them from cradley kawasaki - covers, get them off a breaker - try bernies bikes, he's hampshire based and i'd recommend him. Clutch lever should be fine to replace but may need 2 people - one of you needs to compress the spring/lever at the clutch basket end so that the cable is loose enough to slot into the lever.

Once you remove the generator cover, you'll be able to see if there's any metal - chances are it'll be clean. Most of the debris will be on the road.
