I like the look of these bikes and am considering buying one in the summer to replace my GS.

I just wanted to know what the difference between them is,

The TRX is in the lead ATM as it looks much swisher and has more power less weight etc.

The TDM seems more old manish which is probably, what I need out of a commuter but not really what I want.

So if people could fight the case for either of these bikes I'll be very greatful what else do I need to know?

IMHO:

Urban roads - TDM

Open roads - TRX

TDM is taller - more trailie styled.

TRX is shorter and sportier.

TRX every time if I was buying. Some people refer to the TDM as TeDiuM.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

TRX isn't so great at slow speeds - engine pics up at about mid-revs, which is around 25mph in first.
I suspect the TDM is a bit lower geared. Never had a problem accelerating hard from slow speeds myself on my TRX, but then I know how to use a clutch Smile.

TRX has a 270 degree crank so it's got a similar firing order to a v-twin; sounds a bit less smooth, no signficant difference to riding.

TRX is probably happier on the motorway - fifth works well from 70 to 140 (top speed).
Engine can drink a bit of oil, so keep an eye on it.

Wheelies well with a bit of effort.

V-strom is a lot more cash than the 850s.

Considering that, might as well consider the SV, which is better in most aspects than the V-Strom really.

I've owned SV650s and a TRX850 at the same time.
The TRX had a bit more 'chracter', a nicer riding position for me and was definitely a lot prettier.
The TRX handled faster stuff better, while the SV was better in slower stuff. Though, as I said, never had a problem using the TRX in town Smile.
