It makes a snapping noise nearly every time I release the throttle.

Example of how this works in practice:

1) I'll accelerate in first gear and because the end of the road is nearby, I won't move up a gear, so when I release the clutch and throttle the chain area will go "clak clak clak".

2) When I'm going at normal speed after a gear change, I'll release the clutch and throttle and again I'll hear "clak" or "clak clak".

It's really effin annoying. I've oiled the chain recently, so it's unlikely to be that...I can't think of anything else it could be...if indeed it's even a problem in the first place...It might just be going too fast for the gear I'm in...

Sounds like the chain is knackered with loose and tight spots.

Get the bike up on a paddock stand if you have one, check the slack on the chain, then move the rear wheel to bring the chain around a bit and try again.
Keep doing this untill you covered the hole chain.
if no paddock stand just roll bike foward slightly each time

If in some places its slack, and in others its really tight then replace it.

Or it could be a loose chain. If so just adjust using rear wheel adjusters.

Right, I took it to a shop today, and the guy there reckons my chained is over stretched and knackered. He said it's gonna cost me £65 to get a new chain, and £65 to fit it. That sounds quite high, is that really a true representation of the costs involved?

That's what I thought pal. Thieving cunt.

What about the price of the actual chain? Someone posted up a wicked website the other day regarding all things chains...

Ok, thanks.

Is this a good quality chain, though?

No way £65 for a chain change, take it to a local garage and have them do it for peanuts

The problems lies not with the state of your chain, it lays with the fact that your bike is a CBR Laughing .
Seriously though what is changing a chain, like 1-1half hours for a lazy mechanic? £20 tops I reckon Thumbs Up

Us a honda dealership would fit a chain and sprocket kit for 70-80 quid tops.

Whereabouts are you, your profile doesn't say Confused if looked after, ordinary chains (as opposed to O ring or X ring) can last as long on smaller bikes. If your on a budget but want a good chain, try Tsubaki.

£60 quid to change your chain sounds a bit rich to me Shocked

Oh, the reason the chain makes more noise when you are decelerating is because when accelerating the slack of the chain is at the bottom, when slowing down, it's at the top where it has less clearance. Wink

I'm in London mate.
