Seems to work ok after a brief test, need to experiment with oil viscosity.. probably could be tidier (or mostly invisible if careful enough)
Sure you get the idea, bottle jiggles, lets out oil, for £1.50 I'll give it a go.

I'm sure the only way to get oil/water out of one of the rabbit things is to push the ball inwards? would a bikes movement give it enough force to move in and out?

yep, more than enough (never changed a rabbit water bottle?).. allthough if the stuff isn't thick enough it'd pish out in no time, too thick i'd not run out..

Cheers it'd maybe be sellable, i'm not sure what somebody would think getting a rabbit feeder and some pipe through the post

I'd got the idea ages ago but not had anything with a chain till now..
If anyone fancy a go I'll post details of an optimal mix of stuff for the oil. (when i've worked it out)

I do have another idea thats a bit more complicated but would work even better, variable, maybe even marketable :/ but cost a bit more.

Will experiment when i'm driven to try more weirdness due to a week of being off uni.

I made one that kicked arse...
One 2 stroke mikuni electronic injection pump (off a scooter).
One 555 timer type relay same sort of ciruit as windscreen wipers.
And any type storage bottle.
The great thing about mine was it only worked when the bike was on and you could adjust how much oil it pumped out a min by a switch with 5 settings. So I could have it set high for wet/salty winter comuting and right the way down for nice sunny days when your chain doesn't get such a hard time.

I still have it somewhere because i don't commute anymore. It wasn't pretty but it worked far better than scottoilers.

Do you actually need the tap as if the bike isn't moving the ball will be in the closed position and therefore no oil could get onto the chain and sprocket?

Why not use a fuel injector as a switch / control unit.You can aim it at the chain and when the bike ignition is turned on will pump thick oil onto the chain instead of having gravity do the job

In case anyone cares...

Slight change made the other day.
Its a 90degree elbow, and some pipes ending in a lollypop stick cut down. The 90degree pipe bit was cut down also. you'd find them any half decent car parts place..
This seems to be working much better in terms of over leakage and easier to "aim" just close enough so its not dragging.

Another hting is you can buy fuel pipe or washer pipe that will slot together, so theres not any need to glue anything if your smart about the bits you buy.

I think the main issue with chain oilers is getting oil to both sides of the chain.

The Loobman and the Scottoiler dual injector both do this, but the loobman isn't automatic.

What I'd like is something like the Loobman, that would squeeze itself every time you pull away.

What about something like a spirit optic which could meter out an exact measure of oil? You'd probably need to rig it up to your seat in some way so when you sit on it, it puts the oil into the flow regulator (like you have on a loobman) and gravity takes care of the rest.

I dunno, I don't really like electrical solutions, I much prefer mechanical. Probably because (as mentioned on the guy oiler site) you can easily turn your electrics into a smoking pile of rubbish.

Or I might just fit another loobman...

If i find any suitable electric bits suitable a mk2 might happen on another bike.
Thing is, this is dealing out enough oil and hasn't needed any tinkering. so no need to.
I'd be interested to see what anyone comes up with if somebody attempts their own.

Taking a look at the chain it seems to be finding its way to both sides.. guess its running along the sprockets and finding its way around the rollers.

i think i might try this, oiling the bike every few days is becoming a hassle now especially with a stupidly steep driveway and no lights to see where im spraying.
