Rizoma grab rail covers - Hornet

I have a 2000 hornet 6 and I'm wondering whether the covers for the hornet 9 will fit?

I can see straight away from pics on their site that the 03-06 (if I remember rightly) covers won't fit because they're a totally different shape.

I was originally planning on covering the holes with black metal mesh - would look shit-hot but would let water through!

I want a solution that means I can fit my rack (needs the grab rail) for touring.

Any one got the answer i'm looking for OR preferably know how I could make my mesh idea work?
