ok, lilldic_mossy..you've really got me wanting to go abroad now to get some bike gear (+ to see the sun for once Laughing )

im thinking Barcelona, Palma, Girona etc...any other locations spring to mind?

also, what are the customs regulations with bringing bike clothing/helmets back and also tuning parts?

most of the bikes from Spain/France/Germany etc all seem to be tuned up as far as they can go, so the parts must be peanuts over there. just not sure if customs would appreciate an arrow exhaust system hanging out a suitcase... Twisted Evil

Was thinking of a weekend trip really, fly over to be there for Saturday morning, get checked into a cheapo hotel, go in search of bike gear ( + get lashed in the center in the evening on foreign beverages) have another search around on the sunday for bike shops and catch a flight back in the evening.

sound possible?

Ummm your logic is severely flawed. For example, in Germany any parts you add to your bike have to be approved by the German government. Which makes them very expensive.

The only way I can think that you'll save enough money to cover the air fare is if you went to italy and bought lots of italian parts.

Even so, the customs people will want to pull out your appendix without making any incisions.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

The £ is falling like a rock currently , so if you decide to do it do it fast , BUT as said before you'll probably not save the cost of your flight so why bother, I did however see a Fireblade in France for about 8000 Euro which was about 6000 quid , but alas with the dropping currency it'll be closer to 7500, and you have to de-restrict it somehow.

I travel to Germany on a fairly regular basis. Whenever I want stuff I tend to find one of these shops: https://www.louis.de/. Some good bargains at times.

As the Pound is so weak against the Euro atm, you would be much better going to America. I've just come back from a skiing holiday in Austria and there is a notable difference in how little your money now gets you.

However, unless you already had a trip planned, the cost of the flight and hotel would surely negate any savings you would make?

Me too , get to go with work.

Hein Gericke is much cheaper over there, well it was when the £ was 1.4 to the € when I last went.

Don't get to travel to the states unfortunately.

If you were riding down i would say on your way down towards the spanish border, stop of in Nimes in france, they have some really good assessories dealers, I got some great Furygan Gloves.

Barca is my favourite city of all, but no one wears bike gear there, even when i got there i ended up riding around in a t-shirt...
