This is technically spam. Seeing as we lambasted someone a couple of months back for advertising some kind of rally or something, I feel that in the spirit of fairness you deserve the same treatment.

No need to try to argue, the argument has already taken place!

It's an open day with FREE food, FREE music and the chance to get your bike on a dyno for not a lot of money. Nobody is holding a gun to your head to attend. It's an open day to thank all our customers for their patronage not a hard sell spam thing at all. I'm tempted to launch into a "motorcycling is about freedom" rant but I think it would be lost on you.

If you were doing it as a genuine 'nice guy' moment then yuo would have a leg to stand on. Seeing as you're not and you're actually doing it to promote a business means that you're only after money.

Nice try though.. Wink

Where on the posting does it say I'm charging for anything? The word FREE apperars twice. It's a day for local bikers in the area (who we know and ride with on a regular basis) so they can meet up, have a FREE burger, listen to the FREE music and have a chat. I'm not even charging for the CHAT. It's a sad day if "nice guys" can't even give FREE food away.

It's a day out for bikers with other bikers, and he's advertising it on a biker forum....
Free burger....music..and some good banter,as well as the possibility of test riding some bikes, and a cheap(if it is cheap) dyno...
Sound's all good to me Thumbs Up

(i wont be going as it's a bit far for me...but if i was close id be really tempted, even if just for a free burger Laughing )

People are so thin skinned around here. What's so bad about someone trying to drum up a bit of interest in a relevant event? So they might make some money out of it, what's the problem with that?

Perhaps because its unsolicited commercial advertising which goes against the forum rules?

Also, it would set a precedent that this is allowed. Can you imagine sifting through ten pages of adverts? It would be like Visordown.. Wink

Sounds like a laugh, too far for me though Sad

Surely the majority of things posted in random banter is against forum rules....
Some of the threads in there is nothing short of pornagraphic, yet no-one mentions that Confused

Offensive language is surely against forum rules?

Since when did anyone give a toss about the forum rules? Besides, this is not what I would term junk mail. It doesn't mention my penis once. It's a biking event, the likes of which are posted about all the time on here. So it's the organiser rather than someone who's heard about it that's sharing the news, who cares?

As far as 'setting a precedent', I'd be perfectly happy for people organising bike events to share 'em here. It's certainly no less interesting than most of the crap on BCF. If this one was local to me I might've been tempted to check it out.

Mmm...

If it was near to me I'd go just to spite the disparagers. Laughing If it was entirely non-bike related then yeah, flame on.

Its a shame really, at the moment I'm after a vaccuum pump for my, erm, doesn't matter... Embarassed

Thumbs Up

THANKS EVERYBODY for your support. If you want your little local bike shops to survive then we must be allowed to blow our trumpets a little bit. And where better than on a biking forum. I've not tried to sell you anything but simply extend a friendly invitation. Thank goodness the sensible majority can see it for what it is. I get the feeling that the complainers are possibly traffic wardens or even wheel clampers in their spare time. Support you LOCAL bike shop because if you don't the next time you need your valves adjusting it might not be there. Try get a full service on your bike from Ebay...! Again I hope to see as many of you that can make it as it should be a good day and won't cost you a penny.[/code]

I've got a canny idea for you, why not take a few pics of the event and post them here. Next time, quote this thread and you might not get such a poor reaction.

...which was a little ott in my humble opinion. I think it's a cool thing to promote and BCF shouldn't miss this opportunity to get bikers together.

"General Bike Chat-Anything else you can think of, as long as it involves bikes!"
Sort of sums up what my original post was al about really. Anyway the day went off really well even though the weather was a bit chilly. Attached is a pic of my bike having it's guts rung out of it on the mobile dyno. 141 bhp from a 12 year old bike with 66K mikes on it. Chuffed ot what..?

By the way I can't tell you we're open seven days a week and I certainly can't tell you that any of are welcome to a FREE cuppa if you pop in to see us on a ride out. I'm really sorry I can't tell you any of that but it might be seen as SPAMMING and that would be oh so wrong, even though it was a friendly gesture to the biking community in general. Oh course you could always click on any of the adverts that appear on this site that don't offer you a FREE cuppa and have bog all to do with biking. As for BIG BROTHER CAMERAS, we're all against them but BIG BROTHER General Bike Chat...no thanks.
Again thanks for the support and maybe next year.........

I think you'll find that commerciality is exactly what is used to keep the masses down in the sense of 1984.

I mean, just look at the most commercial programme on television: Big Brother.

I'd prefer to keep commerciality out of this forum thanks.
