Shamelessly taken from london bikers.

BMW are keeping tight-lipped over the specifications for the S 1000 RR, letting our imagination do the work, though we do know it follows a very typical 1000cc inline-four engine, twin-spar and a bolt-on sub-frame model. To you and I it may well look like it has a little something from all four Japanese factories in it. I know I can certainly spot some heavy influence from Kawasaki, Suzuki and even some Aprilia (RSV-4) in it.

The bad news though is that BMW are only aiming to meet WSB homologation minimum build numbers, which is 1000 by the end of 2009. Bummer. We'll find out more in the coming months, but for now we'll just have to oogle at the hi-def pictures and speculate over the cost. If we were to guess, we'd say £15k+ if they keep it near to race-trim.

I can see Gixxer, R1 and ZX10R DNA in there. Front end looks like the fugly ZX10R cross eyed nose, side has the R1/6 fairing look to them. Rear seat unit has a ZX636 look to it. Tank has a yammy R1 feel to it. The silhouette profile has a general GSX-R1000 look to it. I think it's pretty swell. Homologation will mean loads of ace trick parts for road riders.

Looks like any other generic japanese sports bike to me. I'm sure it'll be pretty competitive though. Those germans are a clever bunch.

I like it, but it's nothing special. Yet another 1000cc IL4 engine.. they're just too effective for racing so the manufacturers don't want to do anything different (bar the twins with their capacity advantage). Wish BMW had done something a little bit different!

Looks generic, but the interesting bit will be the specs (and riding) of a road bike - will it be another step on from the more-power-than-a-busa-and-less-weight-than-a-five-year-old-six-hundred GSXR1000?

To be honest, it looks like any old generic bike - anybody who'se raced in extreme mode in motoGP 07 and look at the sportsbike will agree that you can pick ANY bike and slap a brand on them and it wouldn't matter. I guess it's the same here - the fact that the germans are trying to look jap is an indication on who is winning the styling wars - even I have to agree that the duke 1098 looks jap.

What amazes me most is how it remains standing even with no visible means of support.
Those Huns are clever sods.

nahh, the tail is nicked straight off the RC211V.

I think I'll still have a Gixxer, ta.
