Keep it short and sweet

Well ive had the bikes first service and its officially run in,(minus 226 quid!!!!!!!!!!!!) so ive been fairly angry past few days which means lots of ragging, here is my verdit.

The Finish

From afar the finish looks fairly good, but up close its fairly low quality with non laquered stickers on the side fairings (one of which is starting to peel already), other than that its an average finish, ive seen better.

The bike

I could tell pre-run in the bike was revvy, ever more so than the TLR and dare i say it 749, it just loves being revved and really does kick in above 7k with a boot up your arse, i believe my initial suprise on how quick it turns in seems to be because it has no steering damper which has become more apparent today as the front tankslaps quite bad when you hit 7k and are in anything but a straight line, i believe some suspention adjustments are in order, apart from that is pretty stable mid corner like a V-twin should.
Im finding it hard to fathom out at the moment, at times it can be placid to ride then suddently when you push it a bit to far it really does bite back hard, the front has a tendancy to tuck if you arnt going fast enough round bends, this has happened twice, also like i said before the front wheel wants to lift when you really dont expect it too, ive already had the front come up exiting the corner while im still at lean causing an almightly tankslapper again.
I know its not an exellent review, mainly because my blood has literatly been boiling from the first service, and i cant get over the shocking customer service, how long ill keep this bike for ? probably not long.

See if I was Wave I'd be thinking "Why couldn't someone have told me this sooner!"

Someone should open a sweepstake on how long it is before the Aprilia goes.

No, the bike was being sold with 52 miles on the clock i saw a bargain and took it.

Im going to stick with it for now, i think a steering damper is a must now for the sake of my own life, ive never ridden a bike which has needed one so bad, and ive owned a TLR.
Then take the bike to Steve Jordan for some extensive suspention work.

Hey wave,

Is it the Factory model? I thought only the Factory came with Ohlins front and rear, and an ohlins damper? or have they bought the standard RSVR up to a higher spec?

Cheers/

P.S i have a 2006 Tuono, and its great . . . BUT. There are niggles that need sorting before they become the awesome bikes they have the potential to be. I love my Tuono.

p.p.s do you find the MPG to be truly abysmal?

In 2006, the Base model RSVR was upgraded with the newer engine and Ohlins forks and OZ wheels , aswell as other minor changes. (factory was too expensive to insure)
Definatly some niggles that need sorting, its pretty dangerous to ride at the moment.
I dont find the MPG bad at all, infact i find it pretty good, just over 120 to a tank, but does have standard everything.

My TLR was worse, it has a full yoshi, airbox mod the lot which made it drink average was about 90 to a tank, and on track it felt like it was perminatly at the pump, sports bikes just suck for mpg.

The Ducati was good, but if i was to get another one it would have to be a 1098 or 848, the 999 S which was the other possibilty to the RSVR (999S has full ohlins) hold thier value still.

Not going to give up yet, i have lost all faith in Aprilia as a manufactuer though.

wave, I hear all RSV owners saying that it's a completely different riding style which you have to get used to.

And I've never seen an article that doesn't describe the RSV as a razor sharp track tool at the very least.

Maybe if you get on a trackday you will learn to appreciate (instead of live with) the RSV's character.

I'm only saying this coz I tend to find I agree a lot with you on other threads and I was tempted to get an RSV myself!!

Hope it works out for you mate, and don't sell until you've had that trackday!

Thumbs Up

I think you are probably right, although i feel the situation is currently exagerated by the softness of the rear shock at the moment.
I believe when i put the power on the weight goes to the back enough to cause the front to go light and skip, any road blemishes just causes it to tank slap.

Alot of people who have ridden with me say that when i rag it, it looks like im fighting it all the time, which is what i feel like riding it.
The adjustabilty of the Ohlins suspention is massive to im confident it can be changed.

MCN Review of the 04 model

Quote:
Ultra-exotic, extremely high performance V-twin motorcycle that rocks on the race track but is a handful on the road. The Aprilia RSV1000R is not for the inexperienced.
The Aprilia RSV1000R motorcycle is tall, slender and quite a handful. Works best with a rider who can show it who’s boss.

Lovely bike wave.

MPG is not to shabby compared to an 04 fact!! I would personally stick with it and once you get the problems sorted with it you'll be hooked for a long time.

MPG is never an issue for me riding a sportsbike, if i bought a bike to be good on fuel, id have got a 500cc commuter.

I really hope i too can sort the bike out to my liking.

i suppose i came from an 03 ZX6R, which was great on fuel, got about 40 MPG on that.

My Tuono gets around 28. Or about 100 miles on 15 quid.
