But it's only shiny because I've just painted it with this crap.

https://www.hardware-ironmongers.com/details.aspx?code=0190227

And it's only clean 'cos I painted over all the dirt. Very Happy

And no, I did'nt spend £14.99 on paint, I just found half a tin of it in the shed that came with the house.

I don't get it either. I'm sure the OP will call the bike a rat bike but it isn't really. The bike was perfectly fine before he transformed it into a 'rat' bike.

As no-one makes factory rat bikes the same is true of every rat bike out there Razz

Do kinda see your point though, I know where you are coming from. I do think this is pretty cool mind, but I like the rat look. Different people like different things I suppose, although it does take a particular kind of mentalist to appreciate the rat look... Doesn't mean you should slag off someone's work just 'cos it isn't to your taste though. (@ SamRox)

And yeah, i'm waiting to see if it melts too Laughing

Well he hasn't posted in ages.

So he is either stuck to the bike still. Or it all melted off and looks shite.

a standard bros is 'perfectly fine' but read nates sig, chuck a 650 transalp lump in it, bigger tank, lightweight back end because theres no stupid heavy subframe and bigger more effective headlights make a damn good hooning machine, and a much bigger head turner than a standard bros. Karma

Why would you want a head turner that made people think 'what the f*ck! you wouldn't see me dead on that'

All well and good changing things to make it lighter and a good hooning machine. Painting it with bitumen paint, won't that make it heavier? Laughing

There was nothing wrong with the original paint that was on there when it came out of the factory, it just didn't suit the 'rat' look.

personal preference. almost every bike i have owned has been sprayed with barbecue paint all over, because i like that look. The only reason the rs hasn't been sprayed is because ive ran out of paint and im trying to keep it clean and relatively stock to keep the resale value because its not planned to be a 'lifer' yet like the CG.

Cheers
John

It was a honda bros ffs. Worst. name. ever. and painted right across the side of the tank. That alone is a good enough reason to paint over it with anything available to hand.

Besides which. A standard Bros is hardly awe-inspiring in cosmetic terms. I'd rather have something individualist and different than a slightly faded universal Japanese bike.

Besides. It's bitumen paint so it's really very dark brown. It will do a very good job of stopping the thing from rusting which after all, is what paint is for.

Nath likes bikes with their arse chopped off. I've done it myself before, I like the look of the exposed back wheel but the handiness of having somewhere to put my panniers has got the better of me these days.

If you think about it, even the sports bike manufacturers are going down a similar route. Sportsbike rear ends are getting more and more minimalist and further away from the back wheel. I suspect it's probably ony some European countries insistance that the bodywork on a motorcycle must extend beyond the rear wheel that is preventing them doing a fully truncated, single seat jobbie.

Quite possibly a fair comment in its self.

BUT

I think the average person thinks "Skank" when they see a rat bike.

Id like to see my self on a nice shiny R6 or Fireblade when im 30 than on a Honda bros painted in gutter paint.

I know its "each to their own" and all that crap. I suppose the rat bikers are just the Grungers/moshers of the biking world.

Can you tell a rider's age when they are in full leathers and lid and riding past? 'cos I can't.

I'd rather own a bike that I've modified to be uniquely mine than one that looks just the same as everyone else's and is just a tarty posing tool most the time. A ratbike is also just a posing tool, but approaching it from the opposite end, and at least it suggests the owner has an imagination and not just a glitzy parts catalogue full of race cans and shiny bits and a cheque book.
