for those that remember me saying i was buying one off ebay..

o.k...the jacket finally arrived yesterday and it`s fucking shocking to say the least.
It`s well made, looks the dogs bollocks, the armour`s top notch, and it`s double stitched in all the right places etc etc etc etc BUT none of that matters.
This synthetic leather wouldn`t stand up to a quick rubdown with a wet cloth let alone a slide across some tarmac.......it`s getting sent back first thing monday morning!!!!
On first inspection it looks like a good quality soft nappa leather but when i looked closer near the cuffs i could see the material underneath.....it`s nothing but cheap foam.

I can`t stress just how dangerous these jackets would be in a crash......they`d rip within a second and probably melt and stick to your skin!!
so if anyone out there ever gets tempted to buy a synthetic leather jacket....DONT!!!
tbh i`m thinking of reporting the seller to ebay for trying to sell this stuff to bikers coz its bang out of order!!!!
Motorcycle racing jacket???.....like fuck it is.

Will be the same stuff alot of the clothes shops use for cheap leather bags and coats. Seen these for sale whilst i was over there, market stalls try flog them to unsuspecting people, they are fashion accessory more than anything. Whats synthetic leather made of? plastic! what does plastic do? melt! bare in mind if it cost 50quid to the west it'll cost about 20quid when on sale in asia. It will cost about 5quid to manufacture thats including cost of materials and labour in chinese sweatshop.

Synthetic leather sounds useless.... What about these jackets on ebay? I kinda fancy this one... https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-GAS-CrunchBlack-Leather-Motorcycle-Jacket_W0QQitemZ300149559891QQihZ020QQcategoryZ30220QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247#ebayphotohosting

After I was asked by a very strict vegetarian at work where they might get synthetic leather gear from I will pass the message on to not even bother looking.

Why, he ain't doing anything wrong. Why will ebay care anyway....

If you are mug enough to think a syntheic leather is going to be as good as the real thing... Embarassed
You also have to remember there are many grades of leather and some of them don't stand up to sliding down the road either.

You are hopefull, if you think he's going to take it back. Better make sure he knows and has agreed to take it back... Coz if you did that to me it would get lost in the post and there is sod all you can do.

If he doesnt agree to take it back you could do a crash test on a sunny/boring day. Get a manakin (or something inside the jacket to weigh it down. Then chuck it out/off a car at about 50mph and see what the result is, at least you'd get your moneys worth Mr. Green

Maybe they wont ...but i see it as false advertising and it`s also a bit shady tbh.If he wants to sell these jackets that`s o.k ...but i think he needs to reword what he`s trying to sell them as before some young kid gets hold of one and uses it thinking he`s gonna be safe.

Have you read any of the bold claims manufacturers are stating lately???...modern synthetic leather is being sold with the pitch that its "upto 300% stronger than real leather because of a combination of the compounds and treatments used to make it"...
so...you dont have to be a "mug" to go a long with that mate......you`re talking like i just went down to the local market stall and bought one of their tacky jackets for use on a bike.... Rolling Eyes

LOL...no mate i`m not hopeful but you presume way too much. Not everyone`s as dumb as you think they are.
Yes he`s already agreed to a full refund if i return it......and do you wanna know why?
Because i NEVER buy 2nd hand used goods off ebay from dodgy fuckers like you.......(lost in the post indeed...Rolling Eyes )
It was from an ebay store....and i`d already checked before i bought it if they had a return policy etc etc etc Wink Rolling Eyes

It`ll be a cold day in hell before any ebay dickhead gets one over ME that`s for damn sure....LMAO
Me a mug??....that`s comical.If only you knew.....

Have no fear mate.....i`ll be getting one real soon.
I only took a chance on this synthetic shite coz the designs/logos on the jacket aren`t available on real leather race rep jackets...
Looks like i`ll have to stick to all black and forget about matching my leathers to my bike.

I'm inclined to agree with iooi. If you wanted to try synthetic leather then get it from a big brand( O wait, they don't sell synthetic leather jackets). Not an ebay special. How could you think for a second it would be top spec?

I knew it wouldn`t be top spec mate.. but i`d hoped for a little better than this shite.Blame the reviews for convincing me to try synthetics.

Like i said a few posts back......i only went for it in the first place coz nowhere else does real leather telefonica gear anymore.

One last question....that site you linked (replicaleathers.com).....have you actually used them or know guys who have?
The site looks well dodgy tbh and there`s no physical address/location given in their contacts.....just an email address.
Not a good start that.

On hols in Australia this year we met a guy in a pub (I know it sounds like the start of a joke but it's not) that had just started importing fish leather. He had a few samples and it looked brilliant, really soft. It wouldn't be tough enuff for the road but I was most impressed. www.mermaidleather.com .

My bike jacket is from Charlie Real Leather (?) in London and is the dogs doodahs. Weighs a ton and makes you feel like a man of steel.

Synthetic leather is often used and occasionally actually tested by side car racers, though it's not allowed for two-wheeled racing.

So you can get decent stuff. Why you'd want to, unless you're jumping about a side car is another matter.

Paddock jacket if he really can't stomach wearing another animals skin.

Have to say that people with those kind of ethics make me smile, if an animal has been sacrificed then every last part of it *should* be used, to not do so is scandelous.

Most synthetics in our world are made using a dimineshing supply of petrochemicals, the manufacture of which fuck with the local enviroment and the finished product has stupid half life - although to be fair progress has been made with bio-degradable plastics.
