Hi all,
This is my first (of many I hope) post.
I have been riding a Honda Bros 400 for a couple of years now and the engine is getting out and tired. I had hear that it is possible to put the 650 engine of the equivalent bike the 600 NTV into my bros as the frames are the same.
Is this true? I'm currently looking at this engine on ebay: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250237914265&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015
Would it be suitable?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Les

Hmm.. would you not have problems with the ntv being shaft drive and bros being chain driven? just looking at the 2nd photo and the pipe that comes out on the left is for the shaft drive i believe. Theres a 400 bros near me going for 395. could be worth it for spares?

You absolutely right I would not have thought of that! Well pointed out thanks! Phew!
There is a bros 650 engine that is chain driven but is not that engine.
As for spares I think I would like to check out getting 650 engine first, thanks.

How can that bike only have 9,400 miles on it?? All bros are Jap imports from '88 - '91.
I really just want to buy a VFR if going to buy bike but great suggestion, thanks.

Bros and NTV are completely different bikes.

You need a Bros 650 engine or a Transalp engine, I dont know if the latter is a straight swap, the former obviously is.

Apparently a 750 Africa Twin engine drops in fairly easily.

https://www.d-murray.co.uk/severe.htm here is an example.

Bikes like the NTV and Bros i'd expect them to have an indeterminate miles on the engine. They are mainly used as work bikes and go round the clock a few times. for 400quid i'd say its already been round the clock once already. Got to take the ads with a pinch of salt. Hence why i suggested it for parts.

Yeh that what I thought all right.
Am just at a bit of a cross roads as my bike is falling apart and I want to upgrade but cant afford to as yet ( I hope to be able to soon though) but can not decide to spend time on my bike. I brought it over from Ireland and can not register it here till I get an MOT but that will cost me £500!
Decisions decisions.

You would have to change the gearboxes over for a NTV engine, so ain't worth the hassle, but a Transalp or african twin engine will go straight in, infact, you can run the off you standard 400 wiring loom, but for full power, it's berst to swap over everything. With some mods, a TL1000 engine will go in as well. Wink

A TL1000 might be a bit of over kill Smile So your saying I would have to redo all the wiring? Is that a huge job?

When I fitted the transalp lump in what is now Nates Bros, I used the standard 400 wiring and black box, all I had to change was the pick up coils, I just replaced the transalp one for the bros one. I also used the bros carbs not the transalp carbs but used the transalp jets. Worked fine for me. I also changed the sprockets, two less front and two more on the back. It was featured in 100% Biker:

That sounds like the job for me. All I need now is the engine. Any suggestions? Nothin on ebay at moment. I'll call junk yard near me but if you have any other ideas that would be great.

The one sitting out side my place that can go walkies for £50 cash?

Don't know if it runs but it turns over and all you really need are the barrels and pistons as the heads and bottom end are the same.

By the eastern edge of the City of London.

It's a 650 engine unknown condition, I've never had it running its part of a bike I bought just to get a cheap rear shock.

No I don't have a photo. do you really want one?

It'll have a frame bolted to it as for £50 I can't be bothered to remove it.

To be perfectly blunt don't bother then.

I can split the engine and sell the covers, generator and starter for a lot more than that and still have the lump for sale. Considering how many BROS's shred there output shaft I won't have trouble getting rid of the bottom end either.

Not meant rudely, just the way it is sorry.

I understand. Am just trying to clarify, what type of engine is it and what exactly your offering?
You mentioned a 'shaft' there. I can definetly not do it if it has a shaft. I'm looking for a bros or transalp engine.
