Hi.
This may seem like a stupid question to some of you but i have noticed quite a few users have a little red flower in their avatar.
First one i noticed was The Don and i was wondering for the longest time why he had a flower there.
Then i noticed more and more people with this same flower in their avatars so my question is this:
What does it mean?

Surely it's not just there because it's a pretty flower? Razz

If you need to ask you don't need to know.

If that was aimed at me you should know that i'm not English.
I moved here from Denmark a few years ago.
There are still things i don't know about your culture so sorry for asking but i wanted to know if it meant something special.
I'm not exactly young either. I'm 30.

Edit:
As Denmark, Norway and Sweden was neutral in both world wars and did not suffer heavy losses from the wars we do not have a remembrance day at all.
If my question has offended anyone i apologize as that was not my intention. At all. I was just curious since i never noticed it before.

I nearly put in that caveat, 'except if you're foreign'.

It originally sounded like you were an english moron, and believe me there plenty of them about.

Every year on remembrance day someone vandalises a memorial or something equally ignorant, and everytime my faith in the british drops a notch.

I remember a few years back some old boy got arrested and charged for slapping a couple of cunts busily vandalising one. Fucking state of the Uk.

Hence my slightly aggravated response to the OP.

You must forgive some of our veteran posters, Twosock ...

They're a little stressed at the current level of inanity shown by newbies on this forum, given that the average age (and mentality) of newbies is 15 years old, mostly illiterate, and complete with chronic lip-spittle whenever they see anything resembling a female not fully dressed from head to foot.

Many frustrated British people could find it entirely probable that in modern UK society, jaded British youths of such an age really may have no idea of the reason or significance of a red poppy, and indeed, of Remembrance Day.

This being because they may have had the sort of upbringing in which no members of their families have been engaged in any sort of State of Conflict other than on an Xbox or in council estate-wars (for which poppies are not yet, thankfully, a recognisable symbol of remembrance).

Possibly, several posters in this thread assumed that you, being relatively new, were One of Those sort of newbs.

But what a happy discovery that you are not.

Apologies for my short reply, I hadn't realised you weren't British. I'm of the same mind as Bonny in that I'd be slightly disappointed if someone from this country were unable to recognize the rememberance day poppy if it were shown to them. Such is the way this country seems to be headed however Rolling Eyes
