I got home from work today to find a letter from my car insurance company saying this, and that the incident was alleged a few weeks ago.

Rang up the insurance company who had no other details apart from a road name, and said they would tell the alleging company to check that had the registration correct.

I have no knowledge whatsoever of the 'incident', but inconveniently there is a road by that name in my home town, (not a rare name but not extremely common either) I've never driven on it but it does have a junction with a major road I sometimes use to get to work.

Anyone ever had this before?

Surely the police would have been round re: leaving the scene of an accident. Then again maybe not. Laughing

Ask for them to point out the corresponding damage on your vehicle. Smile

You'd think so wouldn't you.

Hoping it's just a clerical error rather than a scam artist.

This happened to a friend of mine - Police turned up at her house, turned out her car had been cloned, and the cloned car had been in an accident.

I'm sorry about this, but what does intimated mean? I'd understand alledged or initiated...

On Topic, surely there is no way anyone can prove it was you involved in a scene without proof, especially if it's a scam type situation? Not with just your reg?

Presume this is sorted now, but yes I had this.

Phoned up, they looked at their records "oh sorry, seems to be a mistake somewhere". Got a letter soon after explaining it was just a clerical error.

A friend received a NIP recently for driving dangerously, causing an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

He sent a letter to the police detailing why it couldn't possibly have been him, including photos of a completely undamaged car.

It took three weeks for them to finally get back where their response was "the registration was only a partial match and the description of the vehicle wasn't quite the same either".
Frustrating, stressful and upsetting.

You need to try and be pro-active. Good luck Thumbs Up
