After my latest off, i've considered fixing both my CG and the FZR and selling them. I used to love fixing bikes, but i just cant bare to touch my own, but at work am happy as larry, get on with the jobs at hand with a smile on my face and love every second of it, but then i get home... i walk up my drive, come round the corner, an there sat against the wall is the FZR, slowly rusing away.
In the garage is a honda CG, runs fine as, but the wiring needs doing an a few other things, nothing major but even so... i cant bring myself to touch it.
I've changed, and after having nightmares of hittin the side of the car head on killin me and the driver or the 2 kids in the back has really hit home. The thoughts and the dreams have since stopped. But i'm very much scared from the whole thing.
What should i do? How can i get better, i really feel like selling up i've got too much to live for as i currently stand, my dream job, the girl of my dreams, a supportive family.
Just dunno what to do. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

If anything, fix the bikes first then see. You never know getting the FZR purring again may reignite the love of biking. Its one of the things you may regret selling up in the end. Go on have a tinker with the CG and FZR you know you want to really ____________________ Current: Ducati Multistrada 1200s |

Are you reluctant to fix them because you are scared of the dangers of riding?
If so use your accidents as a way to slow down or get more sensible... |
Both, if i hadnt of ditched it i would of planted and most probably died on impact along with the occupant. It just hurts when you spend hours on end fixing something, your pride and joy, to have it taken away by a silly mistake on both parts. And what when i put my own little touch on it this time with some USD forks and a new engine, fix the carbs, get a new chain and sprocket set and wheel bearings, another 10-20 hours of time puttin it right, what then? Some one will pull out, steal it, forget to put their filler cap on or over fill their fuckin diesel tank again. Its just not worth it.
Going slower? Yes that would be ideal but then you get a suited tosser in his audi/beemer/4x4 up your arse cos hes in fancy car and wants to go fast, what if i slam on to avoid something then? End up in A&E again with a recked bike and then have the insurer do fuck all for me.
I never thought about giving up bikes, ever, in fact i was dead against a car, but now i'd rather be in a car than dead. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

Can see your point, I guess its part of riding always having doubt in the back of your mind.
I would get the cg fixed up just go for a few short rides on roads you know and enjoy. Build your confidence back up.
If you would feel safer in a car, get a car. No point riding if your not enjoying it. Come back to bikes in a few years. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

I dont want to drive a car then after 3 years come back to bikes thought, i'll have forgotten everything i know. I havent lost confidence, i just dont want to get back on two wheels after going through all the stress of fixing them to have it taken away again.
Then what after i've fixed em, i'll be riding them to an from work, then bang, all gone again.
Just completely dont know what to do anymore, i feel so stressed all the time, me and the gf are constantly falling out over things because we are both going through a hard time.
Its just one big mess and i just dont have the energy to fix the problems. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |

If any of you know the ace, theres a road that runs parralel to the North Circular, Its full of parked cars on one side and only really room for one car, I once had a minicab pull out into my lane to slowly overtake an AA van, I had absolutely nowhere to go, raised kerbs and fencing on either side and certain death ahead, I proper screamed in my helmet and prepared to jump off just before impact, He made the overtake with centimeteres to spare, me having gone as far too the left and braking as hard as i could...
I dont know what would have happened if he hit me, but it wasent going to be good... It shook me up good and proper but never put me off riding /shrug, Mind you i did do some kind of burnout turn around chased the bastard into the industrial estate and then do somethings to vent my anger. So i do know what you mean about being helpless to others stupidity

Yea man such is life, In my time i have had car doors opened on me, Diesel on the road, wankers pulling out of side roads, stolen bikes... All of them but you just gotta jump back in the saddle asap, and learn what you can from each. I feel each of those experiences has helped me mature as a rider, I was probably a worse twat than half_life a couple of years ago, but accidents have a way of calming you down in certain situations, the fear is good, use it, Dominate your road, If theres some cunt tailgating you behind and you dont fancy dropping a gear and leaving him, just pull over, let them pass, its not worth it.
I am at a stage now when something happens on the road, even if its down to another drivers carelessness or bloodymindedness, as much as i am angry at them, i blame myself somewhat too, look to why i allowed myself to be in that situation to give them the opportunity to fuck up. Listen to that little voice in your head that says that overtake is not worth it, or whats round that corner, or this car driver is going to do something stupid, trust your instincts and work on your spidey sense...
I dont believe in all the prescribed roadcraft and IAM bollox but i think through experiences good and bad you develope your own "system" to minimise danger on the roads... Of course i ride like a twat sometimes, but more often than not im finding it satisfying to exercise a bit of control. Something which i think you can do far better for yourself than any book or prescribed system can..
I dont really know what to say to you, but the longer you leave it the worse the fear will become, the best thing i have found is to just jump back on the steed and get on with it, learning from your mistakes, And every crash i have had whoevers fault it was there is always something to be learned, if you cant see how to avoid it you are a squid and probably would be better off in a car.
Ohh and RE the last poster, i dont know about the rest of you but when im riding there is absolutely no doubt in the front or back of my mind, you shouldent have time for that, save it for when your lying in bed at night..
A quote i like: You start out in biking with a full back of luck and an empty bag of experience, the trick is filling the bag of experience before your luck runs out

I know no one could have told me this a couple of years ago, well they could have told me but it was in one ear out the other, If those twats cant look at a junction you look double hard, weave side to side like a bastard and if needs be just stop and wave them out (checking no one is going to rear-end you obveously).
I used to blame everyone for everything but since i started looking to myself the near misses have decreased
When everything around you seems fucked, look to yourself, take responsibility and solider the fuck up |
