What do you reckon?

The new CEO of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is “a load of bollocks” and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some people’s content faster than others. They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.

This is not the first time an internet provider infringes upon net neutrality, but it is the first time that an ISP so brutally states that they simply plan to limit internet access to a television-like system in which the access provider completely regulates the content you have access to.

Cunts.

I'm cancelling my Virgin contract at the end of June anyway.

Yeah they might offer very fast internet connection, but what a load of bollocks!

Well i'm writing into the cov uni newspaper at this minute explaining what is going on with net neutrality and Virgin Media as I know a LOT of students in Coventry use Virgin Media, the newspaper gets at least 5,000 readers, which is a lot of subscribers to lose.

Hopefully I can drum up some of that age old student rebellion. It's worth a try, i'll keep you posted on how I get on.

I try to use Virgin as little as possible too.

Unfortunately I go up north once every couple of weeks so theyre still raping me for my £28 a fortnight in rail fares.

I hate all that bollocks about branson starting off all poor. BOLLOCKS.

Virgin Media and Virgin trains are different groups.

NTL bought out Virgin Media last year but renamed the Virgin brand and dropped the NTL one because it had a better image.

Did they?

I was working for NTL:Telewest through the merger and we were all informed that NTL:Telewest had been bought out by the Virgin Group....

Given how brief and somewhat questionable the source is I'm not too bothered yet. If they publicly announced anything I'd be jumping ship instantly, as I'm sure most of their customers would.

You're being hellishly ignorant in the case that they can't even deliver 5mb/s properly let alone 50mb/s!

Such a scam what the cable companies get away with advertising! It's like selling petrol and saying "Will fuel you up to 150 miles away" and then conking out as you leave the forecourt!

"Aw no, but it's the wrong sort of rain and the pump you used was the furthest from the source of petrol. Loads of people are also using petrol so you got really weak petrol"

The most precious aspect of the internet as it exists today is the ability for anyone to get online, and have a voice / start a website etc.

Scum like Virgin Media intend to warp the net for, as usual with companies, profit. Long story short, this will eventually result in us 'little people' having no voice again, and the bigwigs having the net completely under their control.

Think of it like this - imagine when TV's first came out, and everyone had the ability to create their own TV channel, and broadcast whatever they wanted to. All of a sudden, the little people are stopped from making their own TV channels because they can't afford it, and we're forced to sit and watch the drivel that the rich want us to watch.

This is the road that the net will head down if we don't fight to make sure it remains neutral.

Nobody doubts that but what Virgin media would do is put a throttling block on that particular site that would make it slow to respond.
