Okies i know this is strictly touring but i also know people dont check so much and he said he needs a quick answer! Specifically asked me to ask on here.

Basically the old man is fretting as he is on an organised trip touring trip, not 100% on all the various countries he's on but he's taking the GS1100 through a whole bunch of countries in Europe with a group of 11 other similar bikers organised by a guide company.

He needs insurance and needs to sort it himself, his BMW insurance covers every country he's going to except Bosnia.

He is only in there for about 2-3 days max but needs to get insurance. He says he wont be able to go to embassys/places in Bosnia to organise as the group has a set route etc so wouldnt be able to organise there.

So who's been and who knows where he can sort it out from England?

I promise all other questions will be in the touring section Mr. Green

Much appreciated.

The simple answer is standard europen cover only includes nations in the EU - the normal tactic is to ask your existing insurance company if they will extend cover to the country you need to go to and if you're lucky they may do it and issue you with a green card however it's likely to be just TPO coverat best.

I'm not sure if Bosnia comes under this wording:

"any other country for which the Commission of the European Community is satisfied that arrangements have been made to meet the requirements of EC Directives on insurance."

Best off giving your current company a ring and if they wont ring round to see if anyone will.

Q: Do I need Green Card insurance for my motorcycle?

Yes - despite what your Broker/insurance company may tell you an actual green card will be needed for Romania as well as several other countries on our longer trips. Whilst in the EU countries your Insurance Certificate counts as a green card but once outside Western Europe you will not be allowed across the borders of Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Bosnia and possibly Croatia without either an actual green card document or by paying for border insurance (very expensive and very limited).
