PostPosted: 18:08 - 24 Apr 2008    Post subject: Selling a bike to an impatient ebay newbie. Reply with quote

This is a bit of a mission to read, I must admit. I've tried to shorten it down a bit but needed to get my point across. What do you think on the matter?

- I put my gsxr on eBay.

- Bloke buys bike off eBay

- Without even an email, bloke goes through eBay, asks for my info and rings me, leaving a message.

- I was on site. Phone message states he wants to pick it up this weekend otherwise he'll have to look elsewhere.

- I get this message upon leaving site. I text him to apologise and to state that I am busy this weekend and unfortunately he would have to go elsewhere.

- I was working on a pharmaceutical site all week, no electroni devices allowed due to explosion risk. He leaves 3 more voicemails, all of which I don't reply to.

- I email him and state the situation, apologise, I'm on site all week and am 100% busy this weekend, give me a phone next week if you're still interested.

- I miss another voicemail.

- Saturday I receive negative feedback, saying I was a "messer".

- I thought that was out or order. He clearly didn't want to buy it now so I retalited in the only way possible - negged him back. His negative feedback was completely unjustified. Ebay allows sellers 14days to complete a transaction if I am not mistaken.

- Sunday, out with my mum in Regents park and he calls. He leaves a message, shouting how I am a "c*nt". Not nice. I delete it.

- I email him Sunday night. I state the situation, why I done it. Very well worded, well mannered and no obscenities at all.

- He emails back with "how sad"

- I email him asking "why is this sad? Sorry, I am slightly confused." That was my Genuine response, nothing was added or retracted from that statement.

He emails back that night with:

Quote:
Go away e.mails can be reported to the police for harassment.. You sent the 1st one go away please 1 more and I'm going to dagenham police to report it

This email comes from "mums emails" as the header.

I leave it. Didn't want any fuss. I'm a nice boy anyway.

2 days after, I request my final value fees refunded through eBay, stating differences between 'us'. He disagrees with this and I don't get my fees back. At this point, I am losing out on £35+ with no gain at all.

I email him back asking why he done it and that now I would need to get money back through other means (sent a nice plea to eBay today)

He emails back with:

Quote:
will not go against ebay rules and lie and say that we both agreed not to go ahead with sale because I wanted to buy and you would not answer my calls/emails as for getting the fees directly from me you are more than welcome as I take that as a threat I do happen to have cctv and if anything happens at my home address I will be keeping this email as evidence my sister also lives next door to my left and my brother is to my right anyway you have my number give me a call as you havent even done so as yet and you would not even answer the phone to me when I won the bike ........ Also I will be sending a copy of your email to ebay and as for changing your name to gonna_ harrasya and saying I hope your sales are going ok you are the one throwing out your threats I have now reported this e.mail and your other ones to the police along with your address and phone number.. your name says it all gonna_ harrasya

The changing my name was Phantomteks idea, I done that before realising he wasn't going to agree to dismiss the transaction. I found it quite amusing he thought I was "harassing" him! I am quitting eBay anyway thanks to their new rules, but I just want my money back.

So, BCF massive, what say you? Be honest too, don't just jump against him because he is a newbie to eBay. FYI though, his only previous transaction on eBay was for some classic vehicle which surprisingly fell through. I emailed the seller to find this out. He left negative feedback to him but because of ebays new rules, it doesn't show up on his profile. I think he may be slightly mentally 'done in' though, considering his 1st email response above.

This is the chap in question.

Infact, the item ended on the 16th of April, a Wednesday. He left negative feedback on the 19th.

If that's not impatience, I don't know what is.

Formal complaint to eBay with all his emails attached. 3 days before leaving you neg feedback? Totally unreasonable.

Shame as I could do with his lightbar for the Trike...

sounds to me like a genuine misunderstanding. He doesnt understand your situation.

You still have a potential sale at the price he bid.

f I were you, I'd be pursuing that rather than caring about whether or not he is a tosser or whether he has left neg feedback.

Unfortunately, by u giving neg feedback, u may have lost the sale.

In my opinon if i was selling something as valuable as a bike, i wdnt give a shit about feedback. It not hard to get good feeback, just by buying cheap shit.

The newbie obviously doesn't understand the concept of ebay. In that it's not actually a shop where any item is dispatched within one day and instead they are dealing with normal human beings who actually have lives.

I think the bloke may have mental issue's, if you've sent him email stating your work situation and he comes back with replies like that, he's a loon.
I don't what you should do but i opened a dispute with paypal and it was resolved in about 2 weeks.
If you were gonna do cash then carry on with the dispute through Ebay.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Why didn't you just call him back? Would have saved loads of this faffing around and sorted the problem out easy. He was very impatient, I agree. But also your name changing antics were pretty stupid.

I don't use Ebay myself so don't know the rules of it etc, but can't you just relist it ?

Hi

I am on site 8am-6pm I ride back to London and get home about 9pm (last week) By that time, I get food and showered and it's 10pm. I don't thikn that is a suitable time to be calling anyone to be perfectly honest. My text and email explained the situation down to a tee, he knew I would phone after the weekend.

I could just dump it on eBay again but I've decided to keep it a bit longer now, until past the 18th of May. Cba with all the hassle of selling on eBay at the moment.

Erm, you seem to have missed the point...which is easily done, I tend to blabber on a bit. I am £37 down now. Thanks to the eBay fees and him not agreeing that the deal won't take place.

I need to get him to say that the deal will not be going through in an email so I can forward it to eBay. Except he is wise to this and won't do it. So yes, I am £37 down. eBay won't understand that their site works on the feedback system - if he has left me negative feedback 3 days after the auction ends, why on earth would I still want to do the transaction with him? I am either going to ruin one of his auctions or pay off the advertising fee (£8) and then block my ebay direct debit as I am moving this weekend anyway. Quite frankly, if that is how their system works I don't want a part of it - they can go fuck themselves.

While the guy is out of order in what he has done. Perhaps you could have picked a better time to sell your bike.
Lets face it, if someone wanted to see it, they can't as you are at work all day till late.
When you are selling stuff, pick times when you know you are going to be able to meet a buyers expectations.
Lets face it if you had just won a new bike you would be wanting to pick it up ASAP and not wait another week Karma

Call ebay, explain it to them over the phone and just tell them exactly what happened. They tend to pay more attention to situations on the phone rather than the email based complaint route through their website.

Failing that, hotmail = free accounts, make new accounts, make a load of ebay accounts with fake details, spam bid all of his auctions and just send him a message after every win saying that you wanted to pick it up 5 mins ago, and its too late now and your having to go elsewhere, and quote a spoof email he apparantly sent you threatening you that you better buy it else he will come to your home address.

Screw him out of a ton of money, go do it NOW hes got 3 vehicles on auctions, say £20 per auction, screw him over and tell ebay he threatened you and you feel too intimidated to go and get the vehicle incase he does anything.

I can not believe ebay are trying to screw me over with this recent email:

Quote:
Hello,

Thank you for your reply with regard to the additional information that
we've requested. I appreciate your time and effort sending us this
information.

I assure you that we do not condone this kind of behaviour among eBay
members and to assist you with your concern, let me reassure you that
it's our top priority that eBay remains a safe and reputable place to
shop.

We've reviewed the eBay member you've brought to our attention and taken
the appropriate action. It's important to bear in mind that not all of
the actions that we can take are visible to you or may not be visible
immediately. However, let me assure you again that we've taken the
necessary action.

Breaches of eBay's policies can lead to consequences that range from
issuing the seller an informational alert, a temporary suspension, an
indefinite suspension or terminating the member's account.

While I understand that you want to know exactly what action we took on
the member's account, as it's important that eBay maintains member
privacy, we won't be able to share these details with you.

Again thank you for taking the time to forward this information to us,
we rely on dedicated members such as yourself to help us keep eBay a
safe and reputable place to buy and sell.

Kind regards,

Jon Byrne
eBay Trust & Safety

So, essentially:

They have done nothing to a new member fucking up two autctions.
I am still getting billed for £25+ of fees that I requested be refunded.

I'm honestly amused...*types up reply to Jon*

cant u just offer the bidder below the opportunity to buy the bike ?

that way u wont mind about not getting ur fee back, as u will have sold the bike by putting it on ebay, which is why u paid the listing fee

Which gets you good feedback for buying, not selling. The two are shown seperately.

I'm becoming more and more wary with ebay. Had bad feedback from the person who bought my van who claimed it was 'not as described', despite the fact he agreed it was when he collected.

I am closing my buyers and sellers account once this crap is sorted. 5 years of 'loyalty' and they go and do this. Rolling Eyes

I'll phone them tomorrow I guess....I emailed them back but they replied a day later with the same old pish, a copy and paste job. They stated how yes it was unfair that the dispute can be closed without the fees being refunded. And THAT was it...no speel about how to reclaim these fees. None whatsoever....a bit of a "tough shit" reply.

Not taking the others person side,
but on alot of other auctions where large amounts of money is involved, the seller puts on his auction that the buyer must contact and put down a 100 pounds desposit within 24 hours of the end.

Maybe as hes a seller hes flip sided it and expected you to reply within 24 hours?
Just a though.

Just phoned eBay as advised.

They said thay cannot do a thing. They will escilate it again but there are no promises. Quite frankly, I feel completely and utterly deserted by a company which I have given more or less 5 years worth of good business to. I was considered a power seller at one point and then they go and treat a valued customer like that. I truley am absolutely disgusted that such a flaw can exist in their 'system'.

They can send the bailiffs round now because I am blocking their direct debit and closing my account.

Re: Tutton, regardless of how he has 'flipped it', he has gone against how ebay works and fucked me over for it. 3 fucking days he waited before deciding to give me negative feedback.
