Did you know that the Hayabusa is a Japanese bird of pray that eats Blackbirds?

Were Suzuki trying to tell us something with the name!!! Considering the Honda Blackbird was the fastest production bike before the Busa was released.

Just thought I'd share that.

It's a falcon, very similar to our very own native Peregrine Falcon...

...but it's not quite as fast! The bird that is, as the bike's quite abit faster, about 100km/h (60mph) or so!

Falcons are the swiftest birds of prey and are very muscular. In level flight the travel about 50 kilometers (31 miles) an hour. In a dive, called a "stoop" they reach speeds over 300 kilometers (186.33 miles) an hour! - Halfway down that page. So it can reach around the same speed as a 'busa. Very Happy

Also, from what I heard on the discovery channel or something... The Hayabusa is identical to the Peregrine Falcon.

May or may not be correct. Smile

Oh - Scroll around 2/3 of the way down the page, you want "4.1.3 Translations of Japanese Names" Smile

*edit* Oh, something else I just noticed. Our very own Wild Goose has his a shiny Japanese name for himself, a few lines down on that page from Hayabusa. It says Karigane - Wild Goose. Very Happy

I remember reading something about the 'Busa and Peregrine saying the 'Busa was a slightly smaller version with different colourings etc. but the 2 were closely related. And that the Peregrine's top speed was around 120mph, not 180 but that was ages ago and have no links or anything to prove what I said so I'll leave it at that

So wonder which would go faster if you chucked them out of a plane nose first; a Busa or a Blackbird or a ZX12R Twisted Evil

In theory they should all reach a similar speed, due to the forces of gravity pulling them down. Ofcourse each bikes own wind resistance would affect it, but not much with an object like a bike, more something like a parachute, feather kind of thing which are affected by air movement's. It's called Terminal Velocity, for a human it's about 120-125mph, with the bike's being denser and more 'streamlined' they should all fall quicker but at a similar speed to one another.

i reckon the busa would land last, isnt it quite a bit bigger than the rest? i havent actually seen one in the flesh but from the photos they look chunky. more surface area for wind to resist against. Question

Wink

Try to remember to use capitals and apostrophes in the appropriate places. Also, don't forget what the spell checker is for, though your main problem is grammar not spelling.

Meh Razz

If there was no air resistance or wind, then in theory each bike would hit a speed of 99.00 metres per second or 221 miles per hour - assuming they were dropped from 500 metres.

In reality, I suspect they will all hit the ground at pretty much the same time as they'll reach a terminal velocity. The bike with the smallest surface area will start off falling fastest though.

I could probably factor in surface area and air resistance, but I canney be bothered. Razz

You're all assuming the bikes would fall nose first the whole way. I doubt this would happen in reality and my guess is that they would spin as they fell Very Happy
