Just wondered a few things about them really.

I'm only 5'8" so would these be a bit 'big' for me? I've never sat on one before you see.

What are they like to ride? Good brakes, handle nicely etc?

What is the pillion seat like? They 'look' pretty small but are they good enough and is riding with a pillion any good?

Rough servicing prices on them? Major or minor...

Any common problems on them?

Things to look out for when buying?

Prices are roughly £3k to £3.5k for a mint one from what I can see.

Cheers! Smile

02 03 are two different models. 03, 04 were the first lot of the track orientated bikes. The previous ones are probably a more practical bike especially if your considering pillion.

I got a 04 zxRR which is pretty high for me ( i am 5 64 ) but this is because its got a spacer in the back shock so the seat is actually sloping down. Its pretty uncomfortable for normal use unless your going fast especially if the mrs is behind.
So much so that I am converting it to track bike where its more at home. Cool

I was looking at another one in a shop and it had adjustable linkages under the back shock so you can drop it down.
Not sure if this is standard or not.

So for a 'weekend toy' the 03 shape would be far better then. You can obviously manage riding it if you bought it so it can't be that bad. Aslong as I can touch the floor comfortably it doesn't matter!

I thought a few bikes had adjustable rear supsension? My VFR had adjustable rear suspension!

Servicing for any Jap bike is reasonable.

The bike has an aggressive angle, but its like riding any sports bike, if you sit right you are fine.

Don't know about pillions, but who buys a sports bike for pillion capabilities Wink

And height isn't a problem my old mans 5 7' and was comfortable on one.

Its a geat bike for a weekend toy. It feels light years ahead of the RVF on the track but if the RVF is better for cruising about.

as well as probably being the "angriest" looking bike around with those front lights Laughing

I got used to the height as I now just use one foot flat on the ground but I think you can lower them.

See attached pic with adjustable linkages on the zx6r pic compared to my zx6rr pic. Dunno if these are aftermarket but I read about some cbr 600 owners use aftermarket lowering linkages.

I didn't think the VFR has adjustable height except for the spring adjustment. I actually jacked up my rvf by stuffing 10mm of butchered washers on top of the back shock, Laughing

Fair point, just nice to scare the shit out of unsuspecting victims who get on the back Laughing

Ah cool, I was worried I wouldn't fit a 600 well and might have to stick with a 400.

Cool, cruising about isn't something I'd get a bike for anymore, I got a car for that now.

I love the front end, and the back end, and the side view, I just love them Cool

Cheers for the advice guys.

Clearly you know nothing, they're sex on wheels Laughing

Even the K4 is more than I was looking to spend, never mind an almost new R6. I like the K4's, but I like the 636's more!

I don't know if I'd be allowed a test ride on any bikes, that'd be the good test Confused

Ridden the 03 636 quite alot, and i can come to this conclusion, its probably the best 600 of said era because the midrange on the bike is alot better than any of the others from the era, thanks to that extra 36cc it gives you a noticlable amount of midrange so good for road use.
The pillion seat is OK, not that comfortable for long journeys.
The suspentions pretty hard as standard, and i dont believe the rider position to be that extreme compared to other sportsbikes ive ridden.

Pretty reliable also, the ZX636 pictures below is still going, and just ticked onto 40,000 miles before being sold on, 35,000 of those miles were done by my friend, inc 3 Trackdays a Scotland tour and a Europe tour with not a problem.

They also do this when you friend lets you have a go Smile

I'm 5ft 4 with a 30" inside leg. I rode Danny's bike without an issue.

I can pretty much ride any bike unless its a trailie, or some particularly high sportsbikes. the 636 isn't one of those.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

mate just go down lagunas in maidstone, i took out a k7 from there and they let me have it for 3 hours and encouraged me to cane it so they could see the top speed recall when i got back! as for the license, if i had not reminded him about it he would have forgot to take it, even then he just threw it in a draw,

i also like the 636's they look mean, i might get swayed that way soon as every bugger else has gixxers an r6's lol, but if money permits i will go for the 04 05 zx10 pure mean

Completley down to the dealer, one won't let me test /any/ bike, another round the corner offered me a testride on a hayabusa if they have one in.

Laughing

3 hours!?!?! That'd be cool Laughing

I might pop down and see, if they don't let me have a test ride without a licence then it'll have to wait.
