Had to happen, i basically can`t afford to ride any more. The monthly cost of insurance + HP payments + new tyres + servicing + running a car and paying a credit card have bummed me.

I`m going to miss biking so much, but something had to go.

3 years until i`m debt free, then i`ll get another one that i can afford, this time i`ll save for it rather than get HP . Man i cant even look at bike magazines any more it sucks!

My friends don`t understand how big a thing this is to give up, biking is a part of my identity now, i feel thoroughly depressed at the thought of getting into my Vecta Diesel during the sumer, and watching the sportsbikes overtake me.

So, i`ll still post and watch the forums, but for now i`m no longer a biker.

P.s My Aprilia Tuono 1000-R is up for sale in the Exchange and mart section. Mint condition, awesome machine.

Peace.

Exactly what I was thinking. Even if you buy something like a CG125 (cheap as chips) at least you are still riding.

Thought long and hard about it, and to be honest the only option is to clear my other debts first. Just gotta release the money thats going on my bike (about £300 a month) and batter my credit card. If i`m good, i`ll be in a position to get a bike in 2 years. This time i`ll go for something around 2k instead if these 5k bikes i have a taste for!

I just have to face it, i`m not a highly paid guy, i live at home because i can`t afford to move out (i`m 28) and living beyond my means has caught up. My own fault at the end of the day!

Bikes are an expensive taste, and i think 2 punctures in a month have pushed me into reality. That and my car needs two tyres and a full service.

Anyway, thanks for being my sounding board!

I`ll be back

Couldnt do it mate Smile Once you`ve had the power theres no going back Smile

I would however definitely get another sports 600, in a couple of years a 2005 ZX6R would do nicely.

i think if you changed bike styles, you wouldnt notice the lack of power, a dirt bike can be loads of fun even if the only push 25hp,
popping up the kerb and accross roundabouts add anew element to biking ;d and are good on gas as well Very Happy
and dirt bike tyres are cheap Very Happy

The Glaringly obvious choice strikes me as sell the car, and maybe the bike too and get a bike which costs less to run...

Is there a particular reason why you need the car?

I know if it was me, I would get rid of the car over the bike any day. I haven't actually used my car in over a week and even then it was only to go to work to which I actually could have walked.

I was taking a load of clothes into work to wash them, couldn't carry them all, needed the car . I was saving on electric & water as they were going in with a few bits that customers had left for washing. See I was being environmentally friendly Laughing (ok I was also getting paid to do my own washing & ironing Very Happy )

Its as simple as my car is already paid for, the insurance is naff all, and basically it costs very very little to run. The bike costs me alot more because i don`t own it.

I want a car for winter when the roads are all crapped up because i hate to put my pride an joy through the salt baths.

Don't give up biking. Sell the expensive bike and get yourself some cheap fun. Mid 90's 600's can be bought for about a grand. No £300 per month and you still get to have fun, sorted!

Kudos to you for admitting that though - I know too many people who are living way beyond their means and just keep on going as if nothing is wrong. I'm so tempted sometimes by loans and cards just thinking 'Ill get that then just get a few more bits for my bike etc.' but then I see my mates who are (some of them tens of) thousands of pounds in debt and I don't. At the end of the day you really just got to prioritize wether you want to be debt free (or with debts that you can afford comfortably) or be constantly borrowing to pay for anything.

I don't mean that to sound condescending in any way, you seem totally on the money (pardon the pun Embarassed ) with what you're doing, it's just that I see so many threads on this site along the lines of 'I've been offered tuppence for my old bike by a dealer but they're gonna give me a great intrest rate on a loan for a new £7k bike. What colour should I get it in and which is better the akra or yoshi? fotoshopz of both plz' and hardly ever 'do you think this is a do-able finance deal given my current financial situation?'

Two years will pass soon enough though, and if we get a summer like last years, you may not be missing that much Wink

Cheers, Stu Karma

Cheers man,

Yeah, at the end of the day i`m the only one who knows how in debt i have gotten myself. I WILL return to biking asap, its in my blood now! But to clear my debts first would make things so much easier.

Its cool if you don`t mind having to worry about whether that KFC is gonna push you over your limit this month, but everyone needs a bit of expendable income ( i want GTA 4 this month!) and i was having to tell my girlfriend that we couldnt go out because i was skint. After a while thats gonna get boring!!

I have been gutted, but like you say last year was a washout, not a good year for biking at all. 2006 however was fricking awesome (anyone remember how awesome that year was?!)

I will be back on a bike as quickly as is humanly possible.

Bike is on Biketrader now, just had a conman phone me up offering to sell me my bike for £99, what are these people on??!!

Cheers

Sam

good point

the way the economy is going at the moment there will be lots of toys available at bargain prices.

'toys' like horses for example have collapsed in price. likewise boats.

motorbikes next? Wink

if its only a hobby dont get into debt for it.

ok i understand buying a bike may mean debt but if it means debt to run it and enjoy it, sell up.

come back once you have sorted your finances out and you wont regret it.

As others have said - there's plenty of ways to do biking cheaply.

I have/still have a 143hp (rear wheel) ZX9. However I'd enjoy riding my 37hp CCM on the road a lot more. You can get Tuono power for about £1k, I'd say; may sacrifice a bit of handling, but should still be 'enough' for road riding.

It's your choice, but I wouldn't be basing it on cost unless riding a costly bike is the important bit to you Smile.

Hi there.

Just thought I'd check in and say hello again!

I haven't really posted since this thread in 2008 so I'm sorry for the Necro!

I have paid off my debts now. It took longer than I had hoped, and was tough to not be riding. Infact I haven't even sat on a bike since I started this thread.

Its been very hard, I have missed biking like you would miss a good friend but now I think I can start again.

As I said I'm going to be very rusty, but I'm gonna jump right in at the deep end and hopefully pick up a 99-00 Blackbird for a couple of grand. Then I'm going to take some advanced training to hopefully remember the skills I have lost.

First, the car has to go. Then I'll see where I stand.

So, what's happend since I last posted? Are the regulars still here? Kickstart etc?

Anyway. I doubt anyone remembers me remotely, but it's going to be really great to be a biker again.

Sam
