I am currently typing this with one arm, as my left one is broken. My right foot is sore and slightly swollen but meh.
So let's test and see how long it takes to type with one arm, it's 17:24 according to my computer.
OK, basically I was on my way to work last night at about half 8. Get to a roundabout and I'm doing roughly 40MPH. All of a sudden the bike lurches forward and I smack the tank, lurches forward again and I'm flipped, land on my left hand/arm and the my head. I then do a barrel role and then I see the bike and it smashes against me and it's pushing me. Manage to push myself away from the bike and the a second later I end u right next to it, with the bike facing the way I just came from. I'm right in the middle of the exit so I try to get up. Takes me 4 tries and the I managed to struggle to the pavement and lie on the grass and I think "bollocks". Look over to the bike as much as I could and I could see oil all over
Turns out there was an off-duty nurse who lived just there (always seems to happen ) and she was checking up on me making sure I could breathe, etc.
5 minutes later I hear an ambulance. I think thank god, but there was another person in it so I wait a wee bit longer. 2 contracted ambulance drivers stop off and help and at this point there's like 20 people around. Then my ambulance turn up and they have to cut my bag off (RIP Joe Rocket bag) but they leave me in my leather jacket.
They ask me where I'm from (my accent) and told them I'm half-Scottish and half-Colombian. One lady said it sounds like a cocktail. Told them I work in the bar and we all laughed. "No more cocktail making for you tonight then!" Made me laugh.
Then I get into the ambulance in a longboard and they carefully remove my helmet after cutting my neck buffs ( ) and then put me on a neckbrace.
Get to the hospital in the longboard and wearing a neckbrace, uncomfortable as fuck. Guy mentions how he has oil in the ambulance and he doesn't know how to get rid of it. Told him to use liquid swarfega and it's magic stuff. He laughs and tells me to stop talking and moving.
Get to the hospital in Stoke Mandeville and then they take me off the longboard and they start talking about cutting my leather jacket off. Told them no and explained to them that they can roll me over to my left (on my badly swollen wrist) and since my right arm/hand is virtually painless apart from the thumb we managed to take one side off. Then they rolled me to my right and after a bit of fuss mange to get my jacket off. Hurt like hell but I didn't make any noise as I didn't want it cutting. Managed to save my jacket, but neck buffs and bag are gone and so is my awesome helmet
They checked my back and neck and make sure I'm all ok and then they get me to tense my butt muscles and they felt them to see if I hadn't lost any use in muscles . So yes BCF I can tense my butt muscles
Get injected with some painkillers and it made me really happy/energetic and I was talking fast. My sister said something along the lines of "talk about verbal diarrhoea"
Ah well now I have a broken arm in a cast and slingshot. In a weeks time I'll get it cut off after the swelling has stopped and I'll get a full cast. I'm thinking shocking pink... Think about the raves
Reason I came off is because my exhaust hanger broke, and the the link pipe broke at a weld because it was moving around. The broken part then dug into the ground and flipped e and the bike
At this point I have no idea what state my bike is in. I know I need downpipes, fork seals, brake pads but no idea what else I need. Hopefully find out soon. Pictures will be added soon.
You know what sucks the most? 3rd time I've come off, and it wasn't due to my riding. So BCF, ride like twats because you'll come off other things, people, neglect, etc.
Don't take me seriously
I have fork seals, downpipes ordered, fork oil ordered, brake pads ordered, crankcase gasket ordered... and then I'll find out what needs doing.
I guess this gives me time to sort out the Hornet properly. Clean it, sort out the wires, tlc, service (long overdue), buy new things, etc.
Has this put me off biking? Like fuck it has
The one thing that saddens me most is I don't know what state my bike is in and I'll be missing the May day rideout with lots of SE people, bbq at H00ders's with drinks, riding the RoD on the Tuesday and the rideout I planned for Sunday 4th.
Well gutted
It's now 17:53. Not bad I think. Cookies anyone
Oh and Rawker gave some advice on wanking and saying it's not all over and something to do with McGee
So give him some karma cookies
Ride safe everyone ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Yeah I hope so too. No idea what state it's in
And it could've easily been worse.
Also to anyone reading who doesn't wear gear, this is the reason you should. Not because of you but anything else that can happen. 40MPH on any bike i going to hurt. I was wearing lid, jacket, gloves and boots. Just normal jeans. If I had leather trousers I wouldn't have any grazes. Leather jacket saved everything bar my broken wrist. Boots protected my feet no end. Can't imagine what they'd be like if I wore trainers.
As in Geri's siggi "gear is good, gear is very very good"
Wear as much protection as you can, regardless of what you ride! ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

Sorry to hear about your crash bud, your hornet was a corker is not a little dirty at times.
Best to think of the bike as a total loss. That way if there is any more news on it, you can't be disappointed. |
