 |
|
Heya,
I've been to a number of garages, and asked the simple question "Do you know how to de-restrict this scooter *points to scooter*".
"No, i dont know how to do 'em".
Soo, my friend's dad owns his own motor garage, mainly with cars, but he likes to do bikes as well. I asked him if he knew how to de-restrict my Aerox and he said "Well, it could be this pipe here which comes out of your exhaust and is welded shut, that could probably be whats restricting it". So then i said "Well most of the scooters have just a restrictor in the exhaust which restricts the power", but he said he wasnt sure and i would need to get information about it before he did anything, as he didnt want to waste my money taking off the pipe and then it making no different.
So, does any know/have any information or links on how to de-restrict a Yamaha Aerox? 30MPH is really TOO slow for me, i'm more of a hinderence than a safety.
Big thanks for any responce, cheers!

This is a good link for derestring scooters, wish I could be of more help, but its a starting point.
That little welded pipe, the restrictor pipe as ive heard it called is probably the restrictor on your exhaust, I cut mine off, and welded the hole up, but didn't notice much difference (probably because the gear ratios on my old scooter didn't let it go abbove 35mph), then again, a mate of mine with a SR 50 did the same to his bike and claims he can get 65mph out of it now, dunno how true that is but it must make some difference.

AFAIK almost all 50's are restricted in the exhaust, and generally its A) that expansion pipe that you can cut off, weld shut, then weld back on again so it looks restricted or B) a restrictor/washer in the manifold exit of the exhaust (as in my old 50) that restricts pressure in the exhaust making it run less efficiently. TBH tho most people on this forum get the arse with dealing with race rep 125 q's and scooter q's. As do i, but i agree, restricted 50's are a menace, however aerox's derestricted do 50 easily enough derestricted so dont be a plank, major headline in local paper involved an aerox spanking into a nova. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

There is also a washer that restricts the movement of one of the pulleys in the drive belt. If you remove this it should gain an extra 5-10 mph. |

1) Make your own thread.
2) Don't use bold, it annoys people on the forum.
3) Use spell checker.
4) The standard exhaust is the best, aftermarket ones sound awful.

A) Learn how to quote
B) He was only warning you about bold text, people round these parts don't take a liking to people who type in all bold
C) There is a spell checker for a reason, your spelling is crap, at least put some effort into typing out in proper Queen's English, people may put some effort in to help you.
D) You called Mark and Joe morons/twats/gimps, so fuck off and die in a hole. ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin)

the exhaust restrictor slows the engine speed, so you get rid of that and your engine now runs flat out 10,000rpm at 30mph instead of about 6500rpm, because you've only partially derestricted it the back wheel cannot spin any faster as thats the other restriction, to make the back wheel spin faster you need to suss out what is restricting the pulley/belt/wheel speed then you will get the increased mph which you desire, if you just do the exhaust the engine will wear out much more quickly than normal, get much hotter in use and probably seize up especially if you use cheap 2 stroke oil |
Everything you have just said is complete and utter rubbish.
If you just de-restrict the exhaust the revs will probably only increase by 500rpm as it is already running near max revs when you are going 30mph. The only thing that is really restrcting your speed is the washer in the variator. The exhaust restriction is just a power restriction which. If you only de-restrict the variator, as there is a power restriction still on the engine the scooter will not be able to get up to 45mph. It will stay around 38mph give or take.
The restriction in the variator doesn't actually restrict how fast the rear wheel goes but how close the 2 halves of the pulley come together. It is just a smaller washer that is in between. (In restricted form, when you hit 30mph you can feel the 2 halves of the pulley hit it)
If you de-restrict the exhaust the bike would probably go 34mph but will accelerate upto that speed faster.
It would never overheat as the way scooters are cooled is not by how fast you are going but the fan that is connected to the crank. You could rev the scooter at standstill constantly and it would never overheat as the fan speed is directly linked with the RPMs.
The fan thrusts air through a duct, up and across the engine cooling it down.
Cheap 2 stroke oil is perfectly fine unless you are running a tuned scooter. I've used cheap (£2 litre) 2 stroke oil in my scooter since I got it and have covered 2500km. My dad has used it in his Peugeot Vivacity 100cc for 11,500km. |

Here is the video. It is for a Giggle (C3) Yamaha but it shows you what you have to do. I used it to de-restrict my CW50.

Not sure how you derestrict a scooter, but I imagine its no longer an issue for the OP. If he hasn't managed it within the past four years, I don't think he ever will...
This thread is like a time capsule. In ten years time we'll be resurrecting threads about how great 98 R1's where and scoffing at our own youthful innocence.

what do you know? i'm a trained peugeot mechanic, i've sold hundreds and derestricted hundreds over the years
i was going to write a huge essay to argue my point, but like most scooter owners you're not going to listen, i mean wow 2500km, you really know you're stuff don't you! |
