So I passed my DAS last week and after selling my 125 today, I was looking to get insurance for a thundercat I want to buy.

MCE (my current insurance company) have told me that the company they are doing my 125 insurance with will not insure me on a thundercat (or even a bandit for that matter)

Net result .... I have to take out a brand new policy and loose the 10 months No Claims I've got.

Gutted.

Going to get a new policy with Bennetts I reckon - get away from MCE

B@stards.....

DON'T GO WITH Bennetts! Had baaad dealings with them.

I had a similar problem with when I upgraded from my 125, they would insure me on a 250 hornet though, which I had been wanting for ages so I bought one Very Happy

Keep the 125 insurance going for two more months and then renew it for the Thundercat or use the NCB and go to a different company.

express usually do the cheapest covers. The problem you're getting is that it's your underwriters that determine what can be insured or not. Any insurance broker goes and finds the cheapest underwriter for that particular scenario. In which case, express went with your cheapest based on the situation that you're on your 125, thus you insuring a thundercat would not be valid with what that particular underwriter provides in terms of cover and consequently, express aren't able to offer you a solution. It's just one thing to keep in mind like. Who are your current insurance underwriters - they often say whether it's from AXA, HSBC etc..

Agreed, keep the old policy (with the 125 on it) running (technically a bit naughty but the chances of you getting in any kind of trouble over it are so very remote) and set up the new policy on the thundercat.

When your old policy comes to renewal in 2 months cancel it at renewal and transfer the one years NCB to your new thundercat policy and they should give you a nice little return premium.

CIA insurance have been good for me and many of my customers. Always phone them and phone them last. I don't think they've failed to beat a quote yet.

Thumbs Up

Just had the same issue with KGM.

Tried charging me £118 quid to change the bike on the policy as there's a month to go this year and then quoted £751 for fully comp with 3 years no claims on a VFR (rather than the zzr which was £200- TPF&T)...

or...

Lose the last month of the 3rd year (renewal due at the start of June) so only keep 2 years NCB, change to a different provider and go fully comp for £234 instead.

Told KGM to stuff it.. Smile

K.

Just had the same with MCE.

Changed my bike after 8 months, but had to cancel policy as their underwriter (NIG) wouldn't allow changes of vehicle.

Ended up sacking off MCE as they couldn't even come close in terms of price to the others. (shame really as when I got my first bike they were £300 cheaper than everyone else).

I'm now back at 0 no claims and still awaiting my refund for £180 back from the cancelled policy.

never ever change anything mid policy unless you are prepared to pay for it.

MCE are good. Its just that because they got you the best deal it just so happened that best deal was with a company that specialises in 125's.

I've never had an issue adding and removing bikes from my policy in the past, but that might be because I'm old and smell of wee! Smile

I've got a three bike policy at the moment and its costing me £300 a year!

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
