I've been offered a couple of bikes for parts recently, both have had their frame and engine numbers removed, no plate and no V5c. I'm guessing that they are bikes seized under section 165, but never made it to the crusher.

There seem to be a few appearing on eBay too.

I might've bought one if needed it, but I passed this time. I wonder what the legal implication are since AFAIK these vehicles are supposed to crushed.

What's everyone's take on this?

I would have thought that forcing a vehicle to be crushed would be completely unethical - surely if someone wants to buy it, it's up to them?

I don't think they should have had their VINS removed either, sounds dodgy to me...

Depends if they came straight from the pound or not. Unofficially bikes are handed off to dealers to scrap, as the police don't like to pay to scrap them BUT they should NEVER be sold on complete and if they are should be reported.

Problem is vehicles used in violent crime tend to attract revenge attacks. All vehicles seized by operation Trident must be crushed and the Reg never issued again for example.

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep it mind! Thumbs Up

Still very tempting at the prices they were offered at and possibly not far from being legit since the guy does work at a salvage yard. Confused
