Smelly gloves!!

Hi all,

I've got a problem with my new bargain bin gloves I bought for about £25 - they make my hands stink which is really annoying as its pretty bad.

Now I know its not me as it's never happened to my mountain bike gloves, so I'm going to buy some new gloves but is this nasty smell a function of the cheap crapness of the gloves or will it happen even if I buy more expensive ones?

When I was learning I used the company's communal gloves and they were just as bad, but at the time I thought it was because loads of people use them.

On a separate note does anyone know of any good curry recipe websites? I can't be arsed to go through google.

I think putting them in the Freezer is meant to stop gloves smelling.

smells usually come from bacteria... but if you say it's not you then i believe ya

Make sure that when they are not being worn they get lots of ventilation ..might be worth chucking them in the washing machine (if they aren't leather??)

Otherwise, try febreeze and sprays alike?

if its a plasticky new smell, it will probably just fade as the gloves age

you could put some charcoal in a paper back, or odour eaters in the gloves while u arent wearing them

that may abosrb the smell

When mine started smelling a bit - i just dusted talcum powder in them . Mine stunk cos of summery sweat, so after a while it smelt of blissful lavender.

Oddly enough, i spray hugo boss on my removable helmet liners and also inside of my leathers- does the job nicely albeit expensively.

As already said lob them in the freezer for a day, the cold will kill the bacteria, been doing it for years. Don't spray with anything as that will just make the smell worse.

I put mine inside a plastic bag before I freeze them

Or hang them in the sun for a bit (doesn't get right to the end of the fingers though).


Or frebreeze all over your hands , and put the glove on repeat about 3 times for each glove to get right to the end of the fingers .

Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a small bowl of hot water and use this to wash the inside of the gloves. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and will kill the bacteria which causes the smell, can also be used on the inside of boots if you have sweaty feet and to freshen up the inside of your helmet.

just the very very tips still smell a bit funny, but oh well, probably because there strengthened alot.

think everyones missed the easiest option - glove liners
they stop sweat and crap getting on your gloves in the first place so your gloves dont stink and theyre a piece o piss to wash and dry
might not help your current gloves, but will certainly stop your hands smelling anywhere near as much and stop any new gloves stinking up.
i got a really thin silk pair for summer so theyre not too warm and a thicker pair for winter which are toasty warm and help keep ya fingers warm.

Stop sniffing your gloves, do you do the same with your socks, or even your pants?, the point is that gloves are not meant to be sniffed, if you have a smell coming from them it could well be that there is some type of rubber inside them causing your hands to sweat and cause this problem.-Jockey.

my frank thomas winter gloves do the same, the freezer trick that was suggested here didnt work, as the buggers just went and hibernated ( I left them 3 days in the freezer).. just live with it. My other pair are alpinestar drystars and they dont smell at all and are warmer than FT's...
