Well, usually winter is the worst for crashes with ice, blackice, hard rain, gritters, greasy roads.

But as its now officially summer, and in the last week there seems to have been more crashes posted on here than i remember seeing in winter Question

Dont know about everyone else but i thought it was getting nice, tyres have started feeling sticky on the road, saw a few diesel spills on the way to work, but even driving through a few (the size of the whole lane LOL) no loss of traction?

Anyone explain why so many people are having spills atm? Neutral

It's been raining alot, and unpredictably, so some people who normally don't go out in rain, are out in rain.

Also, weathers getting better - summer riders are coming out!

Overconfidence. It's all the bikes that were put away over winter being taken out as the weather starts to warm up, only the riders skills aren't quite the same as they were when the bike was put away in October.

And a lot of people still think that they can ride as well as they could just before they locked the bike up for winter.

Agree 100% with that comment. Like everything you need to keep practising and a 6 month gaps certainly helps people to get rusty Cool

Having looked at the roads in the last couple of days when wet.... Its no wonder. The oil is now starting to lift out.

Remember in winter, we, that ride all year long ride with care as you know that grip may not be at its best.
Now you get a few nice days and the part timers are back out. Just because the sun is out don't mean that the roads are clean and grippy.
Rusty rider and poor roads = Embarassed

Damn right !

The roads are probably at their worst right now.

The frequent showers and constant dripping oil from buses, trucks and crappy maintained cars etc are a recipe for trouble.

I've been riding all winter to work and even the grit wasn't this bad.

I'm amazed there are so many vehicles still going considering the amount of oil patches out there.

Buses seem to be the worst or maybe just the ones i follow on my way to work. Each stop and as they move off theres a sump full on the ground.

Just use your gut instinct and ride like your on ice until it warms up enough to dry the tarmac properly.

Small part of neglect to my Hornet caused mine.

Harsh lesson learnt. Had new tyres on as well. Really grippy Sad

Hard rain is far better than this bloody drizzle, at least the roads get a good cleaning when its pissing down.

I put it down to over confidence, especially from weekend warriors like myself. I ride out when the sun is out, but a bright sky doesn't always correlate to warm roads. People like to give it beans unknowingly. You can't predict that a bend will be grippy so always assume it isn't. Take it slow week by week. Confidence is good, cockiness isn't.

prefectly warm and dry winter in worcester, then a large hailstorm made the roads a bit too slippy. the knob in the the bm didnt help really Laughing

road tyres in wet = Thumbs Down
knobblies in wet = Thumbs Up

Cheers
