Downloading Real player so I haven't seen the footage yet but surely one bad copper doesn;t make a whole division bad.

If he is guilty, he will be brought to justice. If he isn't he will walk free. The ex-Paratrooper was guilty and has been charged and punished - it works the same from the Police. I still want to join as you can not tar every police officer with the same brush.

Plus if you want to make a change, you need to do it from the inside Wink

OK watched it - firstly he resists arrest - he uses violence to do so and as such the police are allowed to use EQUAL and OPPOSITE force to apprehend him.

They do this up until the kicking which is extremely wrong and not an acceptable method of arrest.

As far as the head hitting the van, this could simply be that as they pushed him into the van, he stood up to resist, trying to stay out and not get arrested (being drunk his co-ordination would be effected). I am not saying this IS what happened but in any court of law, there would be reasonable doubt and therefore a conviction could not be upheld.

The only offence caused by the police that I can see is a guaranteed guilty verdict, was the incident where the man was kicked. There is NO reason for this and the officer should be dismissed and punished according to the law.

Admittedly he didn't deserve it. If they had collared a paedophile on the other hand then I would happily turn a blind eye, in fact I'd hold him down for them.
It's really rare to see anything like that these days, too much political correctness and people jumping on the bandwagon even dobbing in their colleagues if they slip up.

I always have this debate with my dad (he's been a cop for 30yrs) If a bloke is trying to hurt you or even kill you then he should be prepared to get the same back. I couldn't be a copper cos I'd loose me rag with the batton! But me dad just laughs it off, dunno how they do that. Chunkielad, you must have some patience. It's like these riots when the police do nothing but stand there and get petrol bombs chucked at em, shoot the b*****ds I say. Sorry getting all violent again. Woosa, woosa!

I do have patience but at the end of the day you have to realise that you don't beat a bully by bullying him. Stand up to him yes but if you bully him, you are as bad as him. Equal and opposite means exactly that. If he throws a fist, restrain him maybe hit him. If he kicks, kick back. If he has a weapon, cosh tha bastard!!!

Pre-emptive strike Ruling

The law in this country clearly states that if an individual is moving towards you in an aggressive manner that makes you fear for your own safety, then in such circumstances you have the right to strike the individual down pre-emptively in self-defence, so that you may escape injury and remove yourself from the situation.. It's what the Police use on a daily basis to stop them getting battered before they have to do anything.

That said Chunkie, I can still see no justification for kicking the chap while he is held down on the group by two of your colleagues!
When I was trained to arrest people in the forces (back in the day!) we were always to to use the 'minimum force required to resrain someone' (called the rule of minimum force), and there is no way that was even close to the minimum. However the copper that kicked him has been suspended and I hope he is exposed to the full punishment available.
