I have decided to skip the whole 125cc thing out after many recommendations to just take lessons and get my A2 license.
Now i am looking for bikes i can restrict to 33bhp.
The bikes i have looked at so far are,
Suzuki bandit 600
Suzuki SV650
Yamaha FZ Fazer 600
Honda CB600 Hornet.
I have heard some bikes take restrictors better than others and i am just wondering which would be more suitable for me.

I wouldnt bother with a 250 really, i cant imagine them having a very long life span..i mean after i sell my 125 i wanna jump on a 600..all be it it will be restricted

There's some good 250's out there, such as the Hornet 250, Ninja 250 etc, DS55 on here has one, think it's a '91 bike (not too sure on that one, but after looking over my shoulder, he's across the room - will make him post!) and is making 28bhp restricted (due to it losing power over time).
Get's him upto 80 relatively fast, tops out around a ton.
600's are probably a lot heavier than the 250's aswell.

Get a 250, there great fun love mine. Got mine in November 2007, been riding it since then through out the winter every day, no problems as of yet (touch wood). Its a 1998 model so nearly ten years old.
I like how they are great fun to thrash, and by thrash I mean keeping it between 10-14,000rmp lots of fun. Yeah like Truslack said, goes up to 80 easy enough and tops out at about 100. Redline is 16,000 and the rev limiter is at 17,500.
If I was going to buy another 33bhp bike I'd buy the 250 hornet again love mine and can't understand why people look down on 250's. For the two year restriction they are the best.

I'm looking to do the same aswell but look at insurance first because ive been getting some mad quotes!  Heres a few so it can give you a rough idea. Based on 18 years old, no NCB and in NW London. All TPFT
GSXR600 (2001) - £1600
R6 (2001) - £9000 
Hornet 600 - £1200
SV650 (2003) - £965 |

Ins will vary a lot from person to person. No one co is cheap for all. You just gotta get some quotes and then ring round to see if they will beat each other.
I had a zzr250 and the ins on that was more than my xj600.
Now i know which of the 2 i would rather ride, and sadly despite my love of lightweight 250's its not the zzr.
600 has far more stability at the end of the day.

I'd heavily advise TPO only. And I'll explain.
Let's say you payed 1700 for the bike. Insurance for TPF&T 1500 (average). TPO could be 800-1200
If your bike gets stolen you have to pay a 300 excess. And insurance companies being insurance companies they'd probably only give 1500 for the bike. So You'd get 1200.
The you lose getting an NCB for that year so you lose out on saving money for the future. Not only that but you'll have a claim against you for the next 5 years which can quite easily double the insurance.
So you get back 1200 from insurance. But then you payed around 500 extra for TPF&T. That's 700 better of AT THE MOMENT. Then the fact that you have no NCB means you don't save any money next time round (can make quite a difference. My 2 ncb saved me 250 this year) Then your insurance could easily be more expensive by around 500-700 pounds quite easily. So your 100 better of (in average) for the first year. But then you have 4 years worth of higher insurance.
It really isn't worth getting TPF&T/ fully comp when you are young and the bike is worth less than 3k - 3.5k and the difference between TPO and TPF&T / fully comp isn't much and if it'll affect you much over the next 5 years and the fact that you can lose all your NCB unless they're protected.
My 2 pence on insurance.
Also, get a Hornet. Still fast, good cornering, wheelieable and stoppieable as stock, comfy, looks good and is very reliable.

the SV650/S will take restrictions well (from what ive heard) as its a V-Twin! they have more torque midrange, so there wont be that much of a difference!
i believe that all the other ones are IL4s which dont take them as well... but doesnt mean that they will perform badly!
im looking at getting a 2003 onwards SV650S or a CBR600F.
all bikes youve listed are excellent bikes, but apparently one thing to watch out for on SV650's is that the forks corrode a lot.
