'Going rate' for a mugging, yes.

You really should be able to do that job yourself and save about £65...

Dunno about the VFR but some bikes are a real bastid to get the filter off, could be the reason for the high price. I change mine every other oil-change.

Yes you already mentioned that you can do it yourself.

Maybe next time, both you and wave will ask beforehand home much things are going to cost.

Saves nasty surprises.

I would of gone home and got my spare key come back and ridden off.

Thats the reason when I take my bike in for a service I use a cheap cut spare key and give that to them Wink

I know about sometime not being bothered on big jobs. That and I dont wanna fuck up anything major. Not that I wouldn't get it eventually it's just how much would I break in the mean time to learn how to do it.

But for something so simple.

Me personally I prefer to work on my bike where I can not only because of the money saving but it gives some level of satisfaction when done Very Happy

Well don't complain about paying Honda main dealer rates for a simple job that you could do yourself. Yes I agree £95 for an oil and filter change is pricey, but a breakdown of the costs is probably something like:
Oil @ genuine retail price - £30
Oil filter @ genuine retail price - £9
Sump washer @ genuine retail price - £1
Minimum of 1hrs labour - £50
Environmental disposal charge or old oil & filter - £5

It all adds up to a whacking great fee. I assume that they have given you a proper itemised receipt for the work which you should be able to see exactly what cost so much.

That is mental, I know at the local Suzuki dealers they charge £27/4L of Castrol GPS1 from the parts counter and wanted £10 for the oil filter. I suppose if they charge an hour's labour (or part hour) at £30-45, then put VAT on top of all that there's a good chance they'll get it up to £90. I'm not saying I agree with it, but it's probably the way they justify it to themselves. I did mine myself and this weekend I replaced the oil again as I'd broken down the Castrol someone (nice) gave me in 3000 miles. Anyway I'm trying Hein Gericke's own brand 10w/40 semi I'll let you know how it holds up.

EDIT: darn it MattEmulsion got in first while I was tripe'ing

Fair price IMO , the price of being too lazy to do it and using a MAIN dealer.

Didn't you think of asking before the bike went in . . . "How much will this cost?"

What makes you think that the oil you've got in there is not fully synth? Confused

Because it says the oil name on the receipt, Shell VSX4, which I didn't know wasn't F/S until I just looked it up now, they've obviously only charged me for VSX4, but still, I asked 3 times for F/S to be put in.
