I`m thinking i might just forget the respect from now on and treat other bikers like any other road users....not "family".
Here`s why:

Went out today round a load of stores getting some gear for my trip and went past literally hundreds of riders here and there.
Now "some" let on with a nod or wave so we gave the same back like always but after counting up the number of nodders and non-nodders it appears the non-nodders have greater numbers.
I usually let on to every biker i go past but today i started feeling like a knob coz easily 70% just straight up ignored me and all i could think was "fuck you...you twat".

Is it time to end the social etiquette once and for all.......is the nod really all that important?
When it comes down to it bikers are from all walks of life anyway and if we weren`t riding we probably wouldn`t give the time of day to each other if we crossed paths in the street......so what`s the fucking point really.

Chatting to other riders when i`m "off" the bike means more to me coz i can see them and interact.....and figure out their social stereotyping to find out if it`s someone i`ve got anything in common with etc.

what do you lot think about the "nod"??....

Kinda feel the same way sometimes, this morning out on a ride I noticed a couple of bikers on the side of the road, one bike on a centre stand with fairing panel off and toolkit spread on the ground. I pulled over, gave them a nod and asked if I could do anything to help, turns out the guys oil filler cap had just fallen off leading to lots of mess and smoke.
I offered to lend them my phone but they were sorted and waiting for assistance already so i set off on my merry way, happy in the knowledge I'd done a good deed and might have helped someone. Until a few hundred yards down the road my bike started losing power, and finally coughed to a halt at the side of the road and wouldn't re start.
During this period no less than a dozen bikers passed me by when I was obviously in some sort of trouble without even acknowledging my existence. I managed to find and solve the problem, was a dodgy kink in the fuel line coming from my fuel tap so I didn't need any help and wasn't really expecting anyone to stop, but it would be nice just to get a thumbs up from someone travelling past to check I was okay like the bloke on a silver tourer did just as I was putting my seat back on and getting ready to go.
Although it goes to show some people are more helpful than others, I will still pull over and help other bikers who seem to be in trouble and I'll carry on with the nods and waves regardless.

Honda's have no soul, so only other Honda riders will nod.

Just to add something vaguely new to the whole subject; there have been occasions when I've been concentrating so hard that I've ignored a nod or two. Don't let it get to you though do your own thang and remember we ain't a fraternity, we're a loose (read slack) group of individuals except for the power rangers/cruiser riders/ped bois/safety nazis/commuters/weakened warriors/track only riders/stunters/commuters etc... wave or not, it doesnt matter a fuck.
most full time bikers will nod or wave back, if not initiate the nod, and who really gives a fuck if they don't sometimes concentrating on the road is more important

i dont think high sales volume indicates soul less. I dont think low sales volume suggests soulfulness.

I have heard that Honda go for more of a neutral riding feel which maybe isnt to everyone's taste.

I dont have a problem with that.

well aside from the looks of mine (which tbh blows away "most" other 600supersports for uniqueness Wink )...the "neutral" feel is what persuaded me to buy it after test riding all the others (zx,r6,daytona,gixxer).

But "soul-less and dull" are 2 words that have no place in a description of a 600rr......that`s bollox. Wink

Twist the throttle back and it`s got pure soul right through the rev range.
Get to 10k rpm and it screams as sweet as any other 600 super.
Throw it into a corner and it`ll fly out the other side leaving any rider hanging on for dear life.. Laughing
i could go on ...and on..and on...

600rr no soul??...yeah right whatever. Rolling Eyes Wink Twisted Evil

Um, you really counted how many bikes nodded at you and how many didn't? Shocked

You need to get a life mate........... Laughing

Rare that you'll get a nod from me when I'm on the VS, but you'll always get at least a wiggle of the left-hand fingers or more often a full-on wave. Very Happy

it was just an overall observation during the days riding. Wink Very Happy

I was just saying that GSXR's are mass produced just as much as the Honda's, to me a mass produce bike is just an appliance, but then I again, I think machines are what you make of them anyway Smile

Dunno about Honda's having a neutral feel, they aren't when you drop the forks through the yokes Very Happy

I'm with you Bill. If I see any form of 'biker' I'll give a nod. I also don't mind if I get a nod back or not.

For me, nodding is my way of saying 'stay safe chap' (or chapess), and I wish that to anyone taking a similar risk to me.

Ive noticed that this weekend only a mere 10% of bikers have nodded.

I am considering not nodding any more, or at least for the summer cos ill get whiplash from "letting on" to all the fair-weather riders.

Back in the good old days we'd flash headlights to acknowledge an oncoming rider. Seems a dead tradition these days.
