Just a ponder here on seeing another thread.

I know it's illegal to show any blue/green lights etc, but as far as I'm aware I think I read somewhere that you are allowed only to have red or white lights on the rear, and white or yellow on the front.

Now how would this apply to say having a red neon under your tail, or in the swing-arm etc?

Could it not be classed as a running light?

Mr. Savage I thought better of you.

And if it was visible from the sides, it is illegal - you can only display orange on the sides of a vehicle.

I asked this question a few years ago and the answer I received was along the lines of: the light has to be "white" within the visible spectrum. I'm no engineer/physicist but I found a pdf (BadBlueBulbs.pdf) that goes into greater detail, the interesting bit is on page 3: Are These Blue Bulbs Illegal?

EDIT: sorry I dunno what the hell I'm on tonight, and I really should have read the OP more thoroughly, though the pdf has some merit. Embarassed

I can't remember where I read it and I'm not sure if it is true but it was something like you are aloud any colour on your bike as long as the actual light source is not visible.

A red neon underneath that you can only see the reflection of the light off the road would be legal then.

Correct me if I'm wrong people Thumbs Up

You must not have a white light visible from the rear, though of course you must have a numberplate light, it must shine on the plate but not to the rear.

'Coloured shadow' - now that's funny Very Happy

How about bedecking it with infrared lighting to mess with night vision cameras? (Yes I know, only if they use IR floodlighting etc.)

Kinda "Stealth-Chav" lighting.. Smile

You can make an infra-red camera out of a webcam in about 30 seconds... Smile

FWIW 'running lights' can be yellow and show to the side.
