My mate Dan popped round on his bike this afternoon and offered me the keys for a spin, but I had to turn him down as I'd has a couple of tinnies and was busy building my new workshop. Never mind eh there's always next time.

Pics of his bike:

What you don't realise is that turing a 98 R1 down is like turning the queen down for an invitation to a royal dinner. Highly offensive.
I would have gotten on it and ridden. Never know what happens when you offend a 98 R1...

I think you will find that the '98 R1 does not park on double yellow lines - it simply hovers above them Smile

It's a long story and someone will be able to link you to the origin of this debate, but 98 R1s have the amazing ability of being able to alter speed with a slight twist of the throttle. 'mazin innit!
We also recently discovered that they were manufactured in the future but were so fast they came all the way bak in time to 1998.

More 98 R1 facts:
A turbocharged 98 R1 doesn't exist. That would be like Chuck Norris with two beards.

You don't ride a 98 R1, it rides you.

The only two people who can control 98 R1s completely (but struggling) are Chuck Norris and Techno Viking.

It all started about Colinwall and his '98 R1 testride, and how we went on and on and on about it.
I started the trend, i didnt know it would go this far Confused

I'd claim that I started the trend, but people have been enthusing about the 98 r1 long before I did.

Particularly when it first came out and it was way better than anything else. It was a great leap forward, in being a litre bike that handled like a 600.

For the price they are, you get a bike in much better nick than the average sports 600 you would get for the price.

I didnt get one for several reasons, but it was the best bike I have ever ridden, even if not quite right for me.

No actually the '98 R1 paints the lines itself so that it can allways park in its favourite spot, and then cars full of kittens are left to park in places were they will overheat and cook teh poor innocent kittens alive! Fueling the R1 Laughing

I had had an rs125 for a year, and then passed my test and tried out quite a lot of bikes to see what i wanted as a big bike.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=60383&highlight=test+ride+thread

one of them was a 98 r1

"I was a bit intimidated when I first got on, but its easy to ride and feels great. Its very responsive to the slightest twist of the throttle but in a very controllable way. "

Basically, it had the torque at low revs, that a 600 has at high revs, so there was an immense feeling of power riding it.

Im sure other IL4 litre bikes have that too, but it was the 98 r1 that i rode.

The '98 R1 doesn't really exist. All of the ones for sale are actually '97 R1's that didn't sell 1st time round Very Happy
