Irridium visors will scratch like buggery if you don't look after them well. They are treated on the inside and very often the coating will come off. Black tint is the way to go - you will get minimal colour shifting with tinted visors too (irridium, depending on colour of coating will produce a more brown/yellow image through the visor in my experience, dark tints will be bluer/greener). Get the visor from Racevisors and you get a VERY USEFUL visor bag - means i don't have to carry a bag with me just for a spare visor since i clip it around my waist under my leathers now.

I think it's supposed to let 50% of light through but that does fuck all. I have/had a silver iridium for my Shark (looked the nuts) and was brilliant for sunny days.

As long as you only wear them in reasonable sunlight then you should be fine. Haven't had any problems myself apart from when I've been caught out by forgetting to bring my clear one. Officer just said not to ride with it down and get it changed ASAP. Told him that I didn't think I'd be out this late (which was true) and he was understanding and just waved bye.

Out of personal choice I wouldn't use a dark/iridium visor when it's dark because it's very hard to see anything

I also tend to use dark visors when riding in the rain too - it allows me to see the reflections off the road surface whilst in town more - oil spills etc.
