Posted: 00:47 - 11 May 2008 Post subject: HT Lead fed Tacho for Hornet |
 |
|
I normally use a cheap £25 tacho for when I do trackdays, but it packed in at Oulton Park the other week which left me at the mercy of the noise-testing jobsworths which meant I missed my first session.
This tacho normally has the wires fed into the open connectors where the original clocks go, but the noise-testers had a portable rev counter that could clip onto my (easily accessible) HT lead which worked pretty well.
I've had a look round and it appears that you can get tacho's which will work by being fed off the HT lead, which means I won't have to fanny around poking wires into existing connectors.
I've found these tacho's by Scitsu however I have a few questions:
1. Does a Honda Hornet have a wasted spark? I haven't read anywhere saying it does, so would assume this would be the one I need:
| Quote: | SCITSU TACHO BLUE Ref: SCI-BLUE
Suitable for:
Honda K4 with Motoplat or PVL ignition with a WASTED spark.
Japanese 4str fours (except V's).
Japanese 2str twins TZ250/350 , MBA, RD250/350 , Banshee etc.
4 cyl 2str TZ50/750 , RG500.
Outboard Boat engines of any of the above configurations. |
2. Does anyone else do tacho's like this, which will rev up to at least 13k RPM? Ideally cheaper than £130 like these Scitsu ones
3. Do the ones which run off the battery work while ever the bike battery has a charge? I know Big_Ham had a problem with his on the Honda Hornet forum and said he might have to charge the tacho up with a special kit. I assume this is only for the "rechargeable" types? I'd need one that would run off the bike battery, as I will be leaving that in and it will be charged.
Thanks |

Hey, sorry it took me a while to reply.
Yeah, that's the one you want. The "blue" one. Mine goes up to 16k, but obviously the hornt won't rev that high.
Scitsu don't make the "auto" ones anymore, so it's rechargable ones or nothing, I thought I had an auto one, but I actually had a normal re-chargeable one.
Mine's working fine now it's recharged. I got Scitsu to send me out a charge lead then you just connect it to any 12v battery and connect the cable to the tacho.
Elliott do Tacho's too, but they are similar money.
Most of the hornet cup guys use Scitsu or Elliott stuff. Why not just use the stock clocks? ____________________ My Flickr |

Thanks for your help guys
Hammy, I don't want to use the stock clocks because they're £350 new and not much less when second hand
Sickpup, are they fed from the HT lead or just from the ECU? |
