Ok so i have passed my test and as anyone, they will want to get rid of their 125 as soon as possible.

So had decided on an er6f, which i can comfortably afford. First thing first was to get some insurance quotes.

Some insurers wouldn't even tell me the price because it was so stupid, others are coming in at 3300-4000........TPFT!!!!!!!

Now, i don't have any NCB due to a fault accident back in october 2006 (my insurance has always seemed to run july-july).

I am 19 on 1st july and will get my first years NCB then, but that is 6 weeks away!

I have read of folk on here getting bandits, SVs etc at 17/18 with reasonable insurance quotes, so why can't i? Crying or Very sad

It might be because you are looking at new bikes. people are more likely to steal a nice shiney new bike than a tatty SV650 Wink

Shop around lots, as in call every single insurance company in the back of Bike Trader. As per the insurance topic at the top of new bikers forum.

It might take ages calling them all and then calling back around the cheapest ones haggling them cheaper but given the amount you'll hopefully be able to save it's a fairly good hourly rate if you look at it like that. Wink

New bikes are expensive on insurance, one a few years old will be less to insure even if it's the same bike as an '08 one. Plus as a not brand new bike will be cheaper that'll give you more budget for insurance if needed. Be worth doing a bit of comparison between insurance costs for different bikes and having that in mind when deciding what bike you want to get.

Got a brand new er6f today, got my insurance through bennetts, cost £800 ish tpft @ 18 with 1 year NCB in a good area garaged, no accidents/convictions.

I know what you mean about quotes, 2nd cheapest was £1000 and then they were £1300+. Cheapest fully comp was £1700 so not worth it imo ( i am sure i could get a trashed bike repaired for the extra £900 should the worst happen)

FYI Tesco compare bike quotes fairly well imo, better than the other comparison sites but do try direct aswell.

And yes, brand new bikes do attract much higher premiums!

You answered your own question:

Ie you've got claims against you,

you are young

You live in a no very good area (dewsbury!) not as bad as Mancs but still pretty low

You want a powerful bike

Well many a 125 policy will only cover 125's and if you want bigger, requires you to cancel.

Your quote will also be affected by your at fault calim. That will be a large loading on the policy.

They will be for area's worse than "F" and need investigation to see if they can quote you for insurance.

Could also be area where there are hight incidences of fraud to get ins, so they actually need to speak to someone before they make any offers on ins.

Ring insurance companies up and play them off against each other. It surely will bring your quote down.

I hate that list, someone came up with it and its on sites worldwide now.

Anyone living in Halifax knows that you cant put HX3 down as the same risk and so do the insurance companies. HX3 covers everything from quiet villages with £million house's to the worst council estates full of druggy's.

My car/bike insurance is cheap because i live in one of the villages (but sadly not in the £million houses) so insurers must know there is a difference between my area and other HX3's, where i live thefts are low, streets are quiet, vandalism is non-existant but its still HX3.

If it is that wrong for my area then i don't trust it at all, only way to find out is to do quotes, forget about stupid lists.
