Hello

I'm after abit of advice on the above, I'm collecting my R1 next week, with the Akrapovic's and cat bypass pipe, is it worthwhile getting a Power Commander? Will it make much of a difference?

Thanks

It'll make a difference to your fuel economy, I think the power gains would be negligible but you'll probably get a gain in driveability.

Don't expect a massive change, might make it a touch smoother though.

in short, PC and decent custom map will see great improvement in response and power especially as you have ditched the cat too.
My GSXR1000 went from 149bhp and super lean to perfect running and 162bhp.
Your not going to see much change from £500 though....

My 08 FZ1 which uses a detuned R1 engine went from sub 130 bhp stock, to 138 bhp with the header catalytic converter ripped out + airbox inlet opened + K&N filter + Micron GP can. After fitting a PCIII, it jumped upto 142.5 bhp (all at the wheel not crank). The FZ1 engine is beautifully mapped at the top end, but the bottom and midrange are very lean. A PC III makes the bike feel significantly better right through the range, but don't expect it to transform your bike into a drag racer by itself.

Sorry, I forgot to add that it cost me £380 for supply, fitting and custom mapping. Rip out the header cat (and modify the airbox if appropriate for the R1) before getting the mapping done.

If you want to go the economical route, buy a secondhand PCIII on fleabay, fit it yourself and download and install a suitable map from the dynojet website. You could get it dynoed when funds permit.

I didn't gain a whole lot of peak power, but I only added a PCIII and a race can. I gained between 5-10 bhp across most of the midrange though. Highly rated, make sure you go to a dyno centre that's been recommended by someone though, the maps is only as good as the guy programming it.

I recently got the new R1 and yes you might need to get it for fuel usage, as it can drink the stuff sometimes, but that might just be me and my heavy wrist. But for the power you will not be disappointed from the standard 180bhp, its got a good kick to it. Wink

I have the same bike with the same mods with the addition of a filter, mines booked into https://www.dynojet.co.uk/tuningcentres-detail.php?id=152 for the 24th of this month. price is £380 for a pc3 and fitting with a custom tune. I dont expect to see or to be honest need an increase in peak power, but since putting in the akra y pipe the power delivery is noticeably more lumpy.

just lobbing it on won't do anything, get it set up by somebody. Running the akra cans, y-piece, BMC filter and PC3 myself and with setting up made nearly 10bhp over stock, actually dyno'd 3bhp higher than the same bike with an akra full system on the same dyno (probably a case of one bike being slightly healthier than the other as opposed to the mods)
