Is it ok?
I'm under the impression that it's fine as long as you lube em up after to avoid drying the O rings. My procedure would be: WD40 all over the chain, take a brush to it, hose it off, then put my castrol chain lube on

i dont think it's a good idea, i think i was told by a friend, who's a mechanic also, that it dries up the O rings and can cause them to crack or become damaged. though, i used to use petrol to clean the chain on my old bike. take it off, put it in a tub of petrol (not much its too damn expensive) leave it soak then clean it in the same petrol with a toothbursh, then fit it and lube it up nicely and leave it to sit for a while so the lube can soak in, i lubed it up again before i left on my next ride too. i havent cleaned the chain on my current bike thoguh because it's a continuous chain and i dont have a chain breaker to take it off and there isnt much need anyway

Hi

I would trust petrol a lot less than WD40 on an O ring chain.

All the best

Thanks a bunch. Also, how would I go about cleaning the carb? I don't really want to buy carb cleaner unless it's necessary. I heard you should clean it with petrol

Hi

Depends why you want to clean it. For most things carb cleaner is the best choice. It seriously gummed up then expect to need something like an ultrasonic cleaning tank.

All the best

Keith

Well as you may or may not know I took apart the whole bike after a seized cylinder head and possibly wrecked transmission.
Now that I've taken the fucker apart I might as well clean everything, and I've noticed some residues on the carb. The bike has about 9k miles[/i]

How could you clean a carb with petrol, bearing in mind that the shite in the carb will be from petrol anyway.

Parafin works best for me.

You can normaly buy it at garage forecourts, you don't need a lot.

Just pour an inch of the stuff in to a bake bean can.

I also use an electric toothbrush that I bought from a pound shop.
