I've got a 1983 Honda CB 400. It runs great except that it leaks fuel from the overflow line at the bottom of the bike. Fuel won't stop leaking out of the line. I'm assuming it has something to do with the float. My question is this... is this a complicated problem? Should I just take it to a shop and have them fix it, or could someone with decent mechanical skills and an owners manual fix this? I don't want to pay a butt load of money to a shop if this can be fixed at home. Has anyone had the same or similar problem?
Thanks

It's pretty easy to do.
Just remove the carb, and follow the advice in the workshop manual to clean it out.

If you have any problems post some pics and there will be plenty of people that will help you out.

Take plenty of photos of every part before you take anything off,so you can check them if you cant remember where things go back,

It is easy though,i'm sure you wont have any problems.
Thumbs Up

Use a good fitting screw driver to take the screws out of the float bowls.
Is it a twin or four. You should be able to figure out which carb is the
problem and work on that one or two only.Disconnect the tubes that go to
the overflow and see which are the problem.

Paddy.

Would only remove the float bowls if the bike is running ok and check for any crap around the needle jet and/or the float heights are correct. The problem won't be anywhere else and stripping down a perfectly good carb can lead to more problems than it solves.

When my cb750 wouldn't start I loosened the drain screws at the bottom of all 4 carbs to check there was no water in the fuel. They each opened with a loud crack and then leaked pretty badly afterwards. The screws are kind of like needle valves and when I took them all the way out they were corroded and rough. A quick clean with sand paper on the ends and they were fine. You might have something as simple as that!
