Anyone in Manchester today? Would love to be there because of the party atmosphere. Just been seeing some photos of the build up and it looks like so much fun with fecking loads of people! The sun is shining too to make it feel even better.

Damn you lucky people who can soak it all up and experience it Sad Laughing

Work on the approach to sports city, so all day had drunk people chanting and cars honking horns outside the window... Towns absolutely packed, tescos apparently been closed due to fans nicking beer. Mate who works in piccadilly has just been advised by police to leave the area...

All in all atmospheres pretty good and carry on if people behave, fans started arriving yesterday.

I work in the northern quarter.

Sounds mental the noise coming through the window. I couldn't be assed venturing out at dinner but Piccadilly gardens was already filling up at 9am, will be packed now with the screens out and sun being out all day.

They showed the helicopter shots before kick off. Looked amazing. Apparently theres 90,000 fans outside the ground. Not sure if that was in addition to the full capacity, or fans waiting to go in.

Damn, so wish I could be there!

Speaking to a few Manchester folk all I've heard is how vile all the fans are. Looks like it's about to kick off as well, now they're about to lose.

Haha tbh i think its a minority really out of the 100K+ that had come into the city. Spoiling it for everyone else. I mean there was a couple of fans infighting on my train home this evening (dunno why they werent actually watching the game instead). Heard the screen in piccadilly broke then the fans started pelting it with bottles and cans (whats that? couple thousand fans there?). No need really... Cue riot police moving in...

When i left work there were loads of people about and moving towards the stadium and it was nice and lively with no probs. Not all the fans are lager louts, there were families and kids there as well.

There was enough of them in Preston as alot of them were changing there and getting on special trains to Manchester. Majority of the ones i spoke to were decent, so wished them good luck and enjoy their day.

You always get a small minority of dickheads anyway with football fans, but from what ive heard they were mostly well behaved. Think its a farce how there is one train back to Scotland tonight after the game, what a joke.

So its going to be chaos on the trains again tommorow.

Just been hearing how Piccadilly Gardens is like a warzone. Anything glass has been smashed like shop fronts and cars etc!

Apparently yesterday they had what were effectively tankers with beer taps on the side. 35,000 pints per tanker or so!

I think its easy to comment on how disgusting it all was by looking at the selected video clips and photos being released by GMP. But I was there, and I saw what really happened.

People slating the fans for the mess for example. What the fuck do you expect with such poor organisation? I never seen 1 bin in that square. Not that you would have been able to get to it, such was the immense overcrowding. the square must have been at least double the numbers that should have safely been allowed. And no wonder the place stank of piss.the square was fenced off and the toilets were placed outside this area. 2 hours before the kick off, the police wouldnt let anyone else into the square, meaning if you went to the toilet you were fucked for getting back in. Essentially stopping people going to the toilet for the next 4 hours or so.

I'm a bit sceptical about why the screen didnt work. IMO they knew at least an hour before kick off that it wouldnt work, but they didnt crack a light. why? The n they said it was a problem at the stadium, yet it was being broadcast to 4 other screens no problem, including the 2 screens they just set up at the velodrome. how did they get that up and running at such short notice? And why would they do that, assuming they never knew the picadilly screen wouldnt work? Or maybe it did work, but they decided not to show it in the square because of the sheer amount of people there, and the real possibility of injury should something kick off.

When the screen didnt work, people were more or less told to fuck off. no one knew where to go and the police were not interested. They wanted you to fuck off, but couldnt care less where to. And how did they manage to get so many riot police there so quickly, if they didnt know the screen wasnt working?. they were there as soon as kick off.

Im not defending the people fighting and trashing stuff, but I do think the footage was VERY selective. I never strayed more than 100 yards from the square till after the final whistle, and I never actually saw any trouble as such.
