Bennets charged me ?25 admin fee for an address change!

Bennets insurance just charged me £25 admin fee for an address change.

The operator's excuse was that it was to pull up 'pooling data' on claims in my area (to see if there was less crime at my new address).
Their servers bring up this info in seconds!

What with people claiming back admin fees from banks that charge when your cheques bounce, has anyone heard of reclaiming 'admin fees'?

Maybe I should just write a carefully worded letter threatening to slander their name through the online community.

Any advice?

There have been plenty of posts about bennetts insurance, none of its good either.... Wink

Woo ho, they have reduced it....... Very Happy

Always used to be 30.00

Remember they are only a broker and have to contact the ins co , so some leg work is involved.
As ever if you read the t/c its in there.. Thumbs Up

Bennets are not alone in these fee's

Maybe its the OFT next case to tackle. Shocked

Don't let them rip you off again, change to a decent Insurance Company at renewal time. Thumbs Up

write a letter to them explaining your concerns and mentioning that you are considering contacting the FSA. at these three letters the will shudder and panic and hopefully send an apologetic reply and possibly some money (optimistic as i am)

Whenever I have to do changes on my policy I always ask what the admin fee is and if they can remove it. And normally they will (or at least reduce it).

But maybe that's just because I'm a cheeky bastard and worked in in insurance for 2 years. Don't ask, you don't get.

Fairly standard procedure, these brokers have to make money somehow Laughing

As iooi said there is some legwork involved so they will incur costs from you changing the adress on your policy.

I phoned my insurance the other day to let them know I had passed my A2 test, I was shocked when they said there was a charge of £15 just to send me out new documents

This is what happens when everyone insists on the cheapest policy possible.

I've been using the same broker for 10 years for my courier and trade policy. I don't get charged for paperwork and we are on first names terms.

Sometimes saving money costs you a lot more in the long run.

e-bike you can change bike, address job etc.. and it is all done online and costs nothing - unless you new bike is bigger more risk etc..

ive seen bennets system and all they do is fill ina few things ona computer screen. it doesnt cost £25 to for someone to type something in.

Both my car and bike insurers (churchil and lexham) have not charged me when i told them about my job change, address change and change the contact number. And those are low quotes so bennets is one big rip off.
