Reliant Legalities...

right, i've just bought this

anyway, im beginning to have doubts about me being able to drive it on a bike licence.

theres far more people saying you can than you cant on the internet, but does anyone have any solid proof? ie: police/dvla site?

ive had a look but found nadda.

anyone know for DEFINATE what the legalities are?

i know you used to be able to drive them on a bike licence for sure how ever i beleave this depends on when you passed your test also no matter when you passed your test that modle has a reverse gear some of the older ones had no reverse you can only drive a 3 wheeled veacle on a bike licence if it has NO reverse gear

If you have the B1 entitlement on your license your ok far as i remember...

You can drive, but only if you had a FULL bike license before October 2000 apparently.

You cannot drive a Reliant on a category A (bike) test. You must have a B1 (small car) entitlement on your license. Or a full category B pass.

You did indeed get a good price on that

As to why people buy them, maybe the 60+ mpg and the weatherproofing is a deciding factor. Plus they're actually a shit load of fun to drive and cost a pittance in tax and insurance

Slightly offtopic but i've got this:

Chassis it was on there was rotted, Now its just the body and a galvanised chassis...Not sure whether to keep it, Fancied putting a bike engine in it you see (Cost me £20 so far )

as peeps have said you need B1 on your licence
you will only have that if you got your bike licence before October 2000

My Dad has a Rialto (slightly newer one than that I think) and drives it on a bike license. Things to note:
The front seats really aren't that comfortable.
The back seats have exactly zero legroom
better acceleration from standing than pretty much any car. Better than my 125.
There is a surprising amount of room in the back with the seats down
In high winds it is, to quote my Dad, "More like piloting a light aircraft than driving a car"

Also, that is the first time I've ever actually seen a Kitten. Presumably they aren't much heavier than the 3 wheelers (I believe they are B1 as well) but with better stability?

Watch out if you take it out on the moors, a mate who swears by them parked his up for a hike only to find it on its roof when he came back

Its really quite hard to say if it was done by a few bored passers by or if it just blew over but the look on his face whenever we dig him about it is priceless eitherway
