Now without trying to crack a joke, are muffs any good?

I'm going to Southampton on Friday and we all know it's kinda cold outside at the moment so I'd like a cheap solution to keeping my hands warm.

I'm assuming they'd keep my hands nice and toasty considering they'll be in winter gloves anyway?

I've got a pair that I've been meaning to return. I found them terrible. Exclamation They kept moving out of place and getting in the way of controls, at one point one was about to fly off so I had to hold it while trying to weave between lorries to get to the hard shoulder of the M25. Shocked

Goose managed to loose one somewhere on the A3. Laughing

Hmm, any other ideas then?
I thought the would be quite secure one they were on!

A month or so ago someone said about some heat packs they brought from Boots, who was that and what are they labeled as?

I know a few people have bought heated grips and seem pleased with them.

You can buy heated clothing but it is not cheap.

I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, but they will be wired in (oh god just wait for me to fuck that up, I hate electrics!)

Although I may have a much better way of wiring them up, not sure yet.

Hi

Heated grips are OK.

The heat packs you buy from Boots (amoung other places) work quite well. They last 30~45 minutes and can be reset by boiling them. They will just about fit down the back of a pair of gloves. Think they are about £5 each.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Sorry, cannot remember. You might be able to get them in camping shops as well. The ones we got from Boots were there own brand. The ones we got years ago were made by Prism.

Never used muffs, I decided that they would get in the way of all my controls etc....

I decided to get heated grips (Oxford Grips) and so far they have been very good, even in the wet.

Just got some heat packs, or "hand warmers" as boots call them.
a snug fit at the back of my hand but they should do the job.

They were £7.something each which was a bit more but are still cheaper than heated grips.
I'll test them on my way home.

The thing i'm concerned with is that they go hard so would these cause discomfort over time?

Hi

They do go hard, but they harden moulded to the shape of your hands so are not a problem. Only problems I have had with them are forgetting they are boiling and so the pan runs dry Rolling Eyes , and once boiling them to reset them, triggering them to go off and shoving them down the backs of my gloves at which point they got very hot.

All the best

Keith

well when i got them they were liquid so i used on my 20 minute journey home through the traffic.
the back of my hands was nice and toasty though it doesn't help my fingers as much as i'd have hoped.
Maybe on the motorway i could have my fingers strait and relaxed to let the blood flow down them better but through the traffic i could feel it restricting.
Maybe they'd be better on the inside my my jacket on my wrists so they warm the blood up more as it goes to my fingers.

How do you find is the best way to use them?

Adam

Hi

I used to have them down the back of my gloves, pretty much on top of my wrist. They certainly did help, although heated grips are better!

All the best
